I'm a weird creature of habit -- I can watch movies, hear songs and read books I like over and over again. For example -- I have probably read "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb at least a half a dozen times....

In fact I have to curb myself on this or I'd have a really hard time ever discovering new talent!

However sometimes I have the urge to re-read a book and I can't help but indulge. My next read is going to be "Memoirs of a Geisha" for the second time.

Do you ever re-read favorite books?

If so, which books have you re-read and how many times have you read them?

Please tell me I'm not alone in this! lol

You are not alone!

I keep a pretty sizable library of books just for this reason. I can’t get rid of the ones I love! There are some I reread almost every year, and others I save for special occasions. It may be cheesy, but there is a children’s book I’ve probably reread a hundred times, at least. Redwall, by Brian Jacques. That and Duncton Wood are at the top of my re-reads.

You're definitely not alone, Lori. I get the same urge to reread a favorite novel from time to time, and if I can make time for it, I will.

Sometimes I get that same urge to reread a favorite series, but that's usually something that has to wait for summer--then I actually have a chance of getting through the entire series!

That is exactly like my sister, so you are not alone. I on the other hand can't do it. For some reason once I read something I either give it away or sell it to a used bookstore. It's so funny how many people are probably reading my old books.

However, I read differently. I don't read for story-plot I read for ideas. So once the idea is absorbed and I can relate it to my life, I consider the experience over.

Even Avatar which was fun to watch, I couldn't watch it again.

I don't....but I should. there's a lot of time invested in reading, and that's time better served reading something new....no...wait....knowledge un-retained is knowledge lost....excuse me, I have some catching up to do.

I thought it was just me! We should start a support group ... "Hello, my name is and I am a re-reader." At least once a year I read "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving, "Water for Elephants" by Sarah Gruen, "This Much I Know Is True" by Wally Lamb ... the list goes on. I'm the same with movies - every time I see Shawshank Redemption on TV, I'm compelled to watch it. It must be a legacy of childhood when we wanted to be told a story again and again and again ...

I *always* re-read favorites...and not so favorites! I find there is always some new dimension to the story I didn't see the first time. I can't borrow books either...lol...I get attached!!

Absolutely! Old books are like old friends, especially the romantic ones. Delicious.

Yes, I do, I do! I would say that my Bible and Anna Sewell's Black Beauty are the most read books in my home. I collect serial books too - such as the Harry Potter books - and each time a new book was released, I would have to hurriedly re-read all the previous ones, ready for next instalment. Bid odd really.

Movies. I don't re-watch them too often, but Phar Lap, The Man From Snowy River, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe and anything with Tom Hanks I do watch again and again. If I feel like I need to cry (but physically can't), I put on something like Finding Nemo. I am a big sook!
