My reading plans are getting the old heave-ho. I'll give you three guesses why, but you'll only need one. Did I hear someone say work? You're right! I wish I had a prize for you, but I'm sorry to say I don't.

I'm going to be teaching at least one (probably two) embedded English classes next year, and then I'll continue as a curriculum specialist, as well, so I have to create these courses from the bottom up--yay me! The one I know about is "Junior English for the Teaching Professions." I have until March to decide what novels I would like to teach, so I am going to be reading like a mad woman, but I won't be reading the novels I wanted to read.

The teacher who was teaching this course taught Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult, as well as The Freedom Writers Diary by Erin Gruwell and the Freedom Writers. I need to come up with some other options, because this isn't going to get me through a year! However, since this teacher doesn't like the teacher I'll be working with, she won't even discuss the class I'm taking over. Yeah, we're setting a great example for future teachers, aren't we?

*SOB* I want to read Crichton!!!

Hi there fellow " curriculum specialst"!...

I'm also the ELA coordinator and I teach one English class and one SS class...but I never teach more then 4 periods a day.

It is rough to try and keep up with pleasure reading with schedules like ours, and I am way behind in my reading, but I am making up for lost time today on my day off.

BTW: I know how it is when teachers are petty...when I mentor new teachers that teach inclusion (co-teaching) classes, the in-fighting is sickening sometimes. I often wonder how some teachers get any work done with all the bickering and mean-spiritedness going on!

In regards to ideas/options for your English courses, try the NWP (National Writing Project) and the NEA and EducationWeek websites...the blogs are great and may give you some great ideas for your classes (the SMARTBoard resources are priceless!). In addition, I have access to loads of other sites not available to teachers...I gained access when I was finishing up my doctorate classes...just PM me if you need anything. We teachers have to help each other....the days of isolation and non-collaboration are slowly coming to an end...thank goodness!

Hope this helps...

Have a relaxing MLK Day!!!!!!....

I currently re-reading Braking Dawn for the third time. Yep I am adult twi-heart. I love the chapter named Isle Esme. Lol if you read the book you could guess some reasons why this is a favorite chapter. The funny thing is I hate that the series ends with so many questions left in my head. I hope Stephenie writes more about the characters.
