I've been re-reading a series of books, called "Novels of the Change" by S.M. Stirling. This really means I need to get to the book store and pick up some fresh fodder as it will be brutally cold over the weekend. Good days to stay in and read.
Over the last 10 days, I've read "Dies the Fire", "The Protector's War", "A Meeting at Corvallis" and I'm now reading "The Sunrise Lands"
Not heavy reading. Not sure if it would be considered Sci-Fi or fantasy. More of a what would the world be like if all technology failed.

EF Schumachers 'small is beautiful" subtitled "economics as if people mattered" ..written some 36 years ago but more poignant than ever since most of his predictions of a mis managed earth have come true.. really insightful idea's as to how to live responsibly and enjoy life.. delightful for a thinker..

I've been so busy that I haven't been doing much reading, which is a real downer because I love to read. I'm about 1/2 way through Pirate Latitudes. When it first started, I didn't think I was going to like it--now I love it. It's hard to believe it's the last book by Michael Crichton--he was one of my all time favorites.

I think after this one I may go ahead and read another one by him that I have not had a chance to read yet. I actually can't believe this thing has been on my shelf for over a year and I forgot about it! Want to hear what's worse? When I pulled that one off the shelf, I found ANOTHER one by him that I hadn't read. So the next two on my list are State of Fear and Next.

I'm going to go hang my head in shame now....*grumbles something about work getting in the way of my reading time*

Mr. Midshipman Hornblower is on tap right now, with a little Wasteland on the side. *grin* Yes, the latter is a comic book. *grin*

Meri, I’ve read bits of the Voyage of the Beagle before when I was in college- if the rest of the work really is that good, I’m going to eventually have to pick it up.

And Angel, work always does seem to get in the way of a good book or six. I’m thinking of giving up on sleep, so I can read more… *grin*
Wootz, I would try that, but I know what I'm like without sleep--I wouldn't intentionally do that to anyone!

I hear ya. I used to have a job where I'd sit and wait for things to happen. I got a lot of reading in, which was great. Now I have a job where I'm outdoors and in constant motion, so no more reading. Among other things, I'm waiting for a bio of Annie Oakley to come in to my local library. I need to read some more Jen Lancaster, too. I just wish I had more time...

Under the Dome - Stephen King. About 1/3 of the way through... it's really good. I'm a huge King fan and have set a goal to read everything he's ever written. Friends and family all bought me various King novels for Xmas and my BD (which are very close together). So right now, I have about 15 new King books I haven't read yet. Hopefully by the time next Xmas rolls around, I'll be all caught up.

On the lighter side - Trixie Koontz as told to Dean Koontz: A Big Little Life and Bliss To You were both enjoyed during the holidays.

"Christianity and Culture" by T.S. Eliot...I am not a fan of poetry but I love philosophy...and he is a 'poetic philosopher'...so it's like I'm reading his thoughts without having to read poetry....sort of a 'cheat sheet' or short-cut through all the unnecessary prose. If his poems are anything like his essays, I would have never made it past the first few lines...

Interesting 'stuff'!

(the "Literature" thread piqued my interest in Eliot and his essays...not bad for a modernist...)

Not exactly light reading but interesting.
Ahhhhhhhhhh...a non-fiction person like me!

I'm always searching for great non-fiction books to read... (geez...wish I would have found this thread way back on 12/22/09 when this was posted and added the books to my 'must-read' list...*sigh*)

I am especially interested in the book by David Buss...read the first few pages on Amazon and can't wait to get my copy!

I have read every book I could get my hands on about WWI and II, but will give the book by Reynolds a whirl too...
