Is there anyone else here on EHA who has read/is reading any of Stieg Larsson's "Millennium Trilogy" novels? They're Swedish thriller novels, originally published a few years ago, and are now being translated and published in the US. The first one, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (the original Swedish title translates to Men Who Hate Women) was released last year, and the second, The Girl Who Played With Fire just a couple of weeks ago.

I've been on a foreign mystery kick recently, so I came across Larsson's work, and they're quite enjoyable. Originally, Larsson had planned out a 10-part series with his main characters, Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander, but died of a heart attack a few years ago, and had only completed the first three. There is a partial manuscript for the fourth, and outlines for the rest of the series, however, I believe the family has no intention of having those developed by another writer.

I'm currently in the middle of the second one - the thing I've noticed with this and the first one is that Larsson really takes his time in setting up the plot and the characters, which has its advantages and drawbacks. Stylistically, I've found him to be the Swedish Harlan Coben. Highly recommended!

I thought the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo might have been call "the man who drank coffee." If you're on a Swedish bent check out Tomas Alfredson's "Let The Right One In"

Oh, I managed to find a mixed gender book club and we read Girl With The Dragon Tattoo for that. Hard to find a book club that isn't all women.

Hahaha, you know, that's a good point. Larsson sure does like his minute details. Based on one chapter in the second novel, it could almost more appropriately be called The Girl Who Shopped At Ikea.

I have actually been on a huge foreign mystery novel kick - I've also been reading Henning Mankell's Kurt Wallander series, Sjowall and Wahloo's Martin Beck series, also from Sweden, as well as Arnaldur Indridason's Inspector novels from Iceland, and Boris Akunin's Erast Fandorin series from Russia. I have a couple of books from Hakan Nesser's Inspector Van Veeteren series (also from Sweden), but haven't read them yet.

I've always liked the idea of joining a book club, but I would have to find one that focuses on mysteries - it's the only genre I'm really interested in. Any time I try reading anything else, I just can't get through it.

I read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo a few months ago, and I am almost finished with The Girl Who Played With Fire. Good books, and I am interested to see what the third one will be like.

And I haven't read Let The Right One In, but I have seen the movie. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen-absolutely amazing! The Twilight movies will never measure up.

Yeah, I'm very curious how The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest (#3) will play out, especially since it's going to be a direct continuation of Fire (don't worry, I'm not going to give anything away!).
