So I'm looking to learn more about the stock market and start investing my money, have it start working for me.

Does anybody have any good suggestions for beginning stock market books? I'm currently reading Stock Investing for Dummies, 2nd edition.

How to Make Money in Stocks.....Wm O'Neil
Security Analysis.....Benjamin Graham
Common Stocks Uncommon Profits.....Philip Fisher
One Up on Wall Street.....Peter Lynch
Little Book of Common Sense Investing.....John Bogle

Those should get you started.

It is possible to beat the market. But it takes an awful lot of time! I have accounts at Merrill Lynch (full service broker, best research in the business) and Vanguard (low cost leader in funds). I have self-directed the investments since I retired in 2000. While my accounts do better than the market, for the most part my Vanguard funds beat my Merrill Lynch stocks & ETFs. Frankly, I'm not sure it's worth the effort. (that's why the Common Sense John Bogle book)

For bonds, you definitely want to use funds.

Good luck, Mr. Right!
