I went to an author signing and reading this afternoon at a great independent bookstore that we have in town. It is an amazing bookstore with great places to hang out and read or be online with a great deli downstairs. Our bookclub meets there and they have tons of really great author events (amazing since we are not that large a metropolis.

Anybody else have a favorite bookstore or hangout to browse for books or just read?

By the way the author is Greg Iles - local to my state and a great suspense author.

There's a small chain bookstore in TN that has an actual sit down cafe with a wine list and table cloths. It's excellent - the reading lamps add this cozy feel. It's Davis-Kidd, there are only two.

I don't go there anymore but in the town I grew up in there was a little christian book store that had the little coffee/decadent dessert shop, a little childrens area with toys and interactive things for kids and was connected to a christian music store. I used to love to go in there and veg out in a cubby corner on a big over-stuffed chair.

Not bookstore, but there was the most perfect little corner in the library at my college in Riverside, CA!

I would spend hours there. I even had a space in between the bookshelves that I would take periodic naps in

I miss it

I love bookstores, especially really well kept ones. The smell of fresh ink and paper throughout the store, the orderly system making it easy to locate books. In Tassie, my preference is Book City or Dymocks. When I'm visiting Sydney, I always visit Borders. There's nothing quite the same as the new ink and paper scent blended with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee ...

There are two bookstores that I really like.

One is a smaller book store that is actually a resale book store. They have all kinds of coffee and pastries, a great lunch menu, board games, tables, chairs, and sofas. Since it's in a college town, they also have activities in the evening to attract the on-campus college crowd, including an open mike night. It's called Book & Bean.

The other store I like is Borders, and the one in my town is HUGE. I can get lost for hours in that place, and there are plenty of corners, benches, and tables where you can sit and flip through materials. They also have a Caribou Coffee attached to the store I frequent (most have some kind of coffee shop), which is usually where I end up if I have any cash left after buying my books.

I'm with you guys on Borders. I have lots of great memories of my local one!

The one that I love when visiting my family over at the beach is the Atlantic Booksellers in Rehoboth Beach, DE. It's cozy yet spacious, and they are always very helpful.

I also have a really great independent bookstore by where I live, that I actually used to work for. They get a lot of big names there for their signings, from Nelson Demille to the Clintons to Roger Moore. They often have many marked-down books, so once in awhile I like to go and splurge.

Lately, I've grown to be a big Borders fan - their rewards program is terrific, and their frequent coupons certainly don't hurt!

Yoga gal...are you the same Yoga gal on Amazon? Who writes all those reviews for exercise videos?

Yes, there is a spiritual type book store in LA my bf and I frequent. They have author readings that are great fun.

We also love to go to the Santa Monica Public library. They have a weekly booksale of often very hip and new books for sale for a dollar. We go there, buy more than we need and read. It's fun.
