Hey there!

I love to read (and I'm sure many of you do as well). There are some childrens lit that when I'm feeling sad or worn down always perk me up (for a little while at least). I read: Ella Enchanted, Secret Garden, Little Women, The Elephant's Child, A Little Princess and Hedi. Are there any kids books you read to cheer you up, or just for the simple pleasures they offer? (I think Harry Potter and Twilight are givens; hmmm maybe I'll read all the HPs again to prep for the new movie)

The very best book when you've had a bad day is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. It's great when you're having a week like I'm having because it helps you remember that sometimes things are just like that...."even in Australia!"

I find it impossible to read anything written by Robert Munsch and still be in a bad mood.

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and Mama, Do You Love Me? by Barbara M. Joosse always make me smile.

Yes, I confess to having some children's books in my collection.

The Judy Blume character 'Fudge' usually gets me to giggle. Likewise Ramona Quimby - I can't remember the author at present.

I recently just re-read Malory Towers - Enid Blyton. One book per night.

I love to read this one and I also read it to my students. And, in this economy if you are having money problems another good one to read is Alexander who used to be rich last Sunday. Very cute.

I have a long time favorite of my own, which is A Ghost in a Four Room Apartment. It's from 1969 I believe and discontinued. It was a hand-me-down from my uncle and so cute and funny. That poor ghost never did find his mustard pickles but he sure knows how to have a good time.

"The Little Prince" - Antoine de saint-exupery

"The Little House" - Virginia Lee Burton

When my kids were little we multi-read all the Mercer Mayer books, the "I Spy" books, and "It's Not Easy Being a Bunny."

Mercer Mayer is fantastic. Not just the little critter books which are okay, but I like There's a Nightmare in my closet, There are Monsters Everywhere and There's an Alligator under my Bed. What do you do with a Kangaroo is also cute. The author I'm reading with my students now is Eric Carle. I like to pick one author a month to focus on. It always gets them motivated. I could just go on forever with children's books.

I love reading the Captain Underpants books with my kids. They're ridiculously funny and silly, and just ever so slightly anti-establishment.
I sometimes catch myself reading them when the kids aren't around...

I love Eric Carle and have taught his books forever!

Another newer favorite of mine are the Junie B. Jones series. We discovered them when my now-13 yo was in 1st grade and have adopted some of the sayings that Junie B uses. They are so much fun!
