Grimm; it was he (actually two brothers) who originated Cinderella and Snow White and the seven dwarfs, not Disney.

The Grimm brothers didn't create these stories. They were researchers who went around collecting folk tales, THEN putting down into words the oral stories that had been passed around for generations. While NOT the originators, they were still highly influential.
Oddly enough I was researching this a month or 2 ago when trying to track down the stories as I remembered them as a child (pre- Disney).

What I gathered was that Charles Perrault version in 1697 is closest to what we know - with a mis-translation of fur boots to glass slippers. The Grimm brothers didn't make an appearance till the 19th century. Perrault also brought us, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and Puss in Boots to name but a few.

I loved fairy tales (the originals not Disney), especially Cinderella (she went to 3 balls), then a bit older I loved the Hardy Boys books. Then moved into Tolkien and not looked back since.

I read Nancy Drew,The Hardy Boys, Trixie Belden,Agatha Christie, and Sherlock Holmes as a child. In fact I still haven't lost my taste for these books and am proud to say my 8 yr old grandson is starting to collect Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. I still gravitate to Mystery Novels above all others. Last year between June1 and December 31,2009,I read 187 books

I read lots of Hardy Boys, before they rewrote them to be politically correct and removed all the soul from them.

I re-read The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings rather regularly. Used to read the Wizard of Oz quite a bit too.
