The gunslinger series has graphic sex/rape scenes in it. As well as an incredible amount of violence and bloodshed. I forget how old your students are, but I wouldn't want you to get in trouble with any parents. The sex scenes aren't super detailed but their pretty graphic none the less and there is a graphic birthing scene as well! I'm not trying to spoil it for you I just thought I should warn you!

I love the Wally Lamb books also, but they are so long you really have to have time on your hands to read that. Currently I am reading Max Lucado's, " When God Whispers Your Name". Some of my all time favorite authors are Nelson DeMille, Amy Tan, Maya Angelou. They know how to weave a story!

I am reading The Help by Katherine Stockett. Local writer that has really done well with her first novel. Been on the NY Times Best Seller List for months now and just last week was Number 3. Finally got it from the library (long waiting list) and so far I am really into it. Based in a time period when I was just a babe, the characters are very well-drawn and the writing is excellent.

I have just started Gilly's autobiography. Gilly was the Australian Wicket Keeper (cricket) for nearly ten years in the Test Matches.

True Colours - Adam Gilchrist.

I am really enjoying it.

I just picked up Company of Liars by Karen Maitland. I've never read anything by her before, but the cover caught my eye because it had a medieval look to it. I read the back and it looked very interesting; it seems that it is set up much like Chaucer's Canterbury Tales is (a tale for each character), only it's a dark and sinister medieval mystery. I'm really looking forward to reading this!

Oh I wasn't intending to have my students read all of them (but thanks for the warning--they are 17 and 18). I have those books as well as some books that they've been into recently. The books they're into are the ones I'll put in my class room. I should have been more careful with my wording!

I am reading the Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan.

Very very riveting and he is an excellent and entertaining author. He is exposing stuff we all should know about in a fun way. Very important book, highly recommended.

One of my best friends is reading Stroke of Insight. She's really inspired by it. She's going to loan it to me when she's done.

Wally Lamb is my favorite author, pretty much. He's only written a few books but they're amazing. "I Know This Much Is True" I didn't care for too much, but "She's Come Undone" is my absolute favorite book. It's amazing how authentically he writes in the female voice. If you haven't read that one I really recommend it!
I just started reading "She's Come Undone." It reminds me of
Little Altars Everywhere: A Novel… by Rebecca Wells. I read that on vacation--left at the rental where we stayed.
