The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers, a German cartoonist - without doubt one of the best books I've ever read in my life, extremely well-written and ideal for book lovers who enjoy fantasy that is more out of this world than Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Lindskold rocks! I liked her "Through Wolf's Eyes" series- haven't got into the latest one yet (had quite a few more in the queue ahead of her). Have to look up the Moers, sounds interesting…

And Miss Kitten, try the Aberrat for your kids- I think that is also Barker, but for children. My cousin reads that one to my godson (when she can get him to sit still!).

I'm still trudging through my Wally Lamb book. I'm not really loving this one, either. Maybe "She's Come Undone" was his literary opus?

Forgot to add, I'm partway through The Book of Job by Robert Heinlein, too. My friend recommended it, he's got great taste in books but it's leaving me kind of cold.

I'm a woman without a book right now! Which is probably fine as I am struggling with finding the time to do any reading lately, anyway!

I am almost done with "The Botnay of Desire" by Pollan. His Omnivore's Dilemma was better.

I am also browsing an architectural history book on NYC, the newest workbook of "what color is your parachute?", Hiking in NJ.... A big Stephen King fan.. but been down on his last books, Lidsey's Story was not that good.. Cell was excellent.. I have Duma Key.. but haven't started it.

It is hard to read that much in the summer... my next book in my club is The Nine (story of the Supreme Court).. woho! will be very interesting!!

Currently reading: Immortality by Kevin Bohacz--it's a good Sci-Fi read. I like it because it's not too far fetched, and it contains elements of mystery and adventure, as well.

Next on my list: It's a toss up, really. I have the Gunslinger series by Stephen King sitting here staring me in the face, but I'm also curious about Duma Key, which is sitting right next to the other King books. I also just received a shipment from Amazon.com of a whole bunch of books (2 series) that my students were into last year, and I ordered them for my classroom (they are always signed out in the library, so I figured I'd put them in my classroom and let my students borrow them from me). I really want to read them before the kids borrow them, because I like to stay up on what interests them, and while I know I'll get them back, I know I won't get to read them again until next summer.

Maybe I'll just toss them all in a box and whatever I pull out is what I'll read next!

Just got through with America America by Ethan Canin for Book Club. Very epic and if you like politics this could be a good one. Visits the days of late 60's and early 70's and the presidential election of 72 with a fictional character/scandal that is a Democratic candidate. Interesting view on what probably goes into making a presidential candidate.

I am currently working my way through my Agatha Christie collection. So nice to have my book collection back where it belongs: in the bookshelves!

I want to buy True Colours: My Life by Adam Gilchrist, who is now a retired Wicket Keeper from the Australian Cricket Team. I also want to get another book from the Phyrne Fisher series by Kerry Greenwood.

Just finished The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson (which I started a thread about) - overall an entertaining novel, but not without its problems. It starts off rather slowly, with a lot of tedious details (a whole chapter devoted to the heroine purchasing a new apartment, going out to Ikea and getting new furniture, etc), but once it gets kicking, it's pretty absorbing and engaging.

As I've been on a foreign mystery/detective novel kick, I'm now reading another Swedish novel, Mind's Eye by Hakan Nesser, the first in the Inspector Van Veeteren series.

The gunslinger series is very good and the last books are almost better that the 2nd and 3rd I would have to say. I waited 10 years for him to get back to writing that. But without giving away too much King managed to put himself in a couple of the latter books indirectly of course.

I just got done reading the Souther Vampire Series that True Blood is based on. it was enjoyable but no intriguing or gripping and her writing style is pretty simplistic, not as bad and the Left Behind writers. She also wrote a series about a girl who finds dead bodies across the country for a living. It was pretty good too. Forgive me for not remembering the authors name, I'm at school and too lazy to look it up.
