I don't usually read fiction, but this summer I decided to start my own Jane Austen Club after seeing the movie.

We are starting with her books by timeline:

Sense and Sensibilty (1811)

Pride and Predjudice (1813)

Mansfield Park (1814)

Emma (1815)

Persuasion (1817)

By the time we are done it should be mid-fall. I'm still not sure how and when we will meet to have the 'book talks' because everyone (for a change) is dating or in a relationship, but we will work that out later.

This is gonna be fun!

I have read the Divine Comedy a couple of times in the past...I wouldn't think of it as a summer read. I just finished reading Orryx and Crake a post-chemical apocolyptical book that I enjoyed. It was written my the same author that wrote A Handmaids Tale.

I've read The Divine Comedy before, too. I don't have much free time other than during the summer (I'm an English teacher), so I read whatever appeals to me whenever I can.

Oh, I meant no offense, it's a great book, and probably one I should read again. (It's been awhile) An english teacher huh? That's cool. When I was young I used to read heavy philosophical books, and now that I'm older I think I usually go for lighter fare.(Except when I'm doing research or something for school) It's funny, I'm either getting less interested in compelling literature or I just don't want to carry those big heavy books unless I have to.

Oryx and Crake is a good book...pretty out there and strange, but very good. I really enjoy Margaret Atwood's stories.

I teach English and History..7th/8th grade, but I am an avid historical non-fiction reader. If I read fiction it is always one of the classics or a best-seller that catches my eye. I have been making an effort to read more fiction lately because I will be teaching at high school level soon, and I teach at the college level as an adjunct.

I keep up with what my students are reading only because I have to in order to gauge their comprehension and critical thinking...but I love history and non-fiction.

BTW: I read The Divine Comedy twenty years ago and was mesmerized by Dante's concept of hell. But my friends are trying to get me to read more fiction...ergo...the Jane Austen Club this summer. I like the classics so it shouldn't be too bad.

I read Stephen King's Duma Key recently. Classic King: engrossing without the silly gory stuff. Now I am reading World Without End,by Ken Follett, the sequel to Pillars of the Earth, which I read this Winter. I love this stuff.

Anyone out there taht likes fantasy fiction!!!Read Clive Barkers Imajica, Weaveworld, and The Great and Secret Show. All of his books are great I've read and re-read them. Galilee is one of my favorites and his childrens book (too dark to read to my kids) is enthralling as well, I can't remember what it's called.
