Hello Outlaw!!

I am still reading Da Vinci Code, even though I've seen the movie like five times. But the book is equally interiguing. Next will be Angels and Demons. Another good book and also in the movie theatres, but I have yet to see....

I always enjoy a good word or two! Right now I'm researching schizophrenia, it's harrowing but fairly interesting! After my classes are over I am looking for Mausby!

In addition to encyclopedias, a wonderful resource for non-fiction are dictionaries!

Archaic meanings. Alternative spellings. Off culture contexts.

The right word might even inspire one to take a leap of fiction.

There was a time when the majority of my reading was non-fiction because I enjoyed it way more. Now I might get into a book of fiction one night and non-fiction the next night. Back and forth-whatever my mood.

Not exactly by choice, but I'm reading books on the laws and theories of physics. I can't say I'm having much fun with it.

I do sometimes read bios, but I haven't for a long time. And I like to read books about architecture. I haven't a clue why, though. But I haven't read any of those wither, recently.

While I read more fiction than non, I try to strike some sort of balance. Right now I'm reading The Mayor of Castro Street: The Life and Times of Harvey Milk by Randy Shilts. Having grown up in California, I find this historical perspective interesting and have hated putting down the book to go to bed.

I don't read non-fiction for pleasure because I have to read so much of it for school. I enjoy some military novels but I read to escape reality, not read about other people doing it. It's similar to why I don't watch sports; I'd rather be playing that watching other people have fun. I enjoy creativity and surprise and it's hard to find those things in nonfiction simply because, well, you can find the end of most nonfiction books on Wikipedia and they can't exactly be creative when you're writing about real events.

They're just not that fun to me. But I do read a lot of it because I have to. Oh well.

I go to the library every three weeks and check out 5 books. One classic I should have read in high school or college, one non-fiction (often a biography like Team of Rivals), one new fiction, and two books I randomly pick off of the non-fiction or fiction shelves. Or a trashy paperback if I'm going on a trip. I think it keeps me pretty informed and well rounded.

I enjoy reading biography/history. About once a year, usually during the winter, I'll choose an era and read about the significant people during that time. This usually spurs me on to read about the politics, art, religion, etc of that era. Then I may read some of the fiction or poetry from that time - if I can wade through it. This has been a fun approach. I'll also read an occasional "current events" type of NF if it is recommended to me by someone I respect.
