Three months ago I joined an ongoing book club and love it. Wonder if anyone else is in one and what are some of your reads.

So far we have read The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga, A Dangerous Age by Ellen Gilchrist, Out Stealing Horses by Pars Peterson.

We are presently reading People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks. Haven't started yet as it is due back at the library this week.

So, what are you reading? How do you feel about your book club?

*Wavin'*...I'm an avid reader of non-fiction. Even as a young girl, my mother saysI would prefer reading the encyclopedias, from cover to cover, to a great fiction book. I remember being shut in one summer with really bad asthma, and read the entire Webster's, writing sentences for wordsI thought were interesting. (sad, but true...I was a strange child...lol)

I prefer historical non-fiction, and at the moment I'm reading "Portals of Hell:Military Prisons of the Civil War". The last book I read was titled "Caligula: The Corruption of Power".

So...what are you reading outlaw? What is your favorite non-fiction genre?

(sorry yoga...PROCEED!)

I read "The Glass Castle" by...can't remember the author's name..., recently;

Loved Khaled Hosseini" two novels - "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns"; Kim Edwards' "The Memory Keeper's Daughter"

And I started reading "The Septembers of Shiraz" by Dalia Sofer but haven't gotten very far because I'm studying too.

That's just the fiction I've read recently.

My non-fiction has been mostly education books right now but I love gardening books as well. I can read them cover to cover and then will try most of what I've read. I also love photography books but usually need my brother to explain some of the concepts in them. He's an avid photographer and should be a professional in my opinion.

Two good books that I've read have to do with Asperger's Syndrome: "Look Me In the Eye" by John Elder Robison and "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" by Mark Haddon (that one is a novel but very informative).

As far as book clubs, I have no time right now but I do have a book club with some colleagues and friends that I can join when things aren't so busy.

Just got through with People of the Book and it is very good. Has some twists to it and a lot of history in it. Since I am from the town that Eudora Welty is from and this year would have been her 100th birthday we are reading The Optimists Daughter this month. There are lots of celebrations locally this year in honor of her in case you are a fan of hers.

I like to read anything about President Lincoln and/or Mary Lincoln. I am fascinated by him and the time period.

JaneJane,

If you are interested in books on Lincoln, there is a new one that just came out in January, called "A.Lincon, a biography." Written by Ronald C. White, Jr. It is excellent. A very thick book, but "it looks at his principal speeches and writings. It also goes into Lincoln's evolving religious convictions, which shaped the core of his effective leadership, and his moral integrity." (from back of book by James M. McPherson.)

It is an easy read, and very interesting. I also personally know the author, and so heard him speak before the book was even released. Interesting guy.
