Are there any fantasy readers out there? I am in need of some suggestions. I have run out of stuff to read and the last few books I picked up have not been very good. Below are a few authors that I have already read and enjoyed just to give you an idea of what I like.
[*]David Eddings[*]Robert Jordan (Anyone know if someone is going to finish the series for the late Mr. Jordan?)[*]Jim Butcher (Have not yet read the Dresden books..just his fanasty novels)[*]Terry Goodkind[*]Kristen Britain[*]George R. Martin
I am not a big Sci-Fi reader (way too technical for me). I did enjoy Weber's Honor Harrington series and would not mind any Sci-Fi series suggestions if they have some likeablecharacters in them.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. If you are into fantasy, then I would recommend reading the series from the authors mentioned above.

Thanks!

I've not read a whole lot of fantasy. Of course, Lord of the Rings was incredible. Besides that, if you like Jim Butcher, I strongly reccommend the Dresden Files. Great books.

I read a lot more scifi than anything else. If you liked Honor Harrington, there are some other things in a similar vein that might suit you. Most of these, like Honor Harrington, are military-style scifi, so a number of the may not appeal to you:

"Mutineer's Moon", "The Armaggedon Inheritance", and "Heirs of Empire" by David Weber (these are a series)

"The Apocalypse Troll" by David Weber

If you liked Honor Harrington because of the strong female lead character, you might really like "In Fury Born". This is a re-write and expansion of one of Weber's very first novels, "Path of the Fury" and it even has some elements of fantasy in it. IMO, it might be his best work.

Steve White and John Ringo both write books that are similar to Weber's, but you might not like their conservative politics. Steve White isn't as aggressive about it, and I believe "The Disinherited" is one of the best scifi novels I've ever read. John Ringo's novels are not quite as character driven, but are still good books. They're more of a social commentary. If you decide to try Ringo, I'll warn you in advance that many of his works are....rough. As in graphic violence rough, especially "A Hymn Before Battle", "Gust Front", "Hell's Faire", and "When The Devil Dances" all of which comprise a series.

I've enjoyed lots of books by: Mercedes Lackey (Valdemar Series especially), Anne McCaffery, Jim Butcher, Rob Thurman, early L.K. Hamilton (I lost interest after Narcissus in Chains), I just finished Nightwalker by Jocelynn Drake and really loved it. The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare is excellent, but is intended for a YA audience.

Thanks for commenting so far. Sometime this weekend, I am going to review your suggestions and make a list of what I want and get them ordered. So thanks again for the advice!

Hey, Rix. That is what PM's are for!

I still have not looked into your suggestion on my Job question. I am working my way up to it. Someone just gave me Heinlein's book on J.O.B. so I figure I am slowing getting to the intellectual level that I need to get to to read something you suggested.

I too would recommend the Dresden Files although I'm not so sure they are fantasy as they are science fiction,(and Ihaven't read Jim Butcher's fantasyseries yet)but I loved them, quick reads and really fun. Like Harry Potter for grownups.

Hi Lizzie,

You might want to check out Neil Gaiman, some of it is fairly modern fantasy like American Gods, while other stuff is a bit more fantastical like Stardust. When I was younger, I really enjoyed Anne McCaffery's Pern books, but it has been ages since i read them. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

Good seeing you again
