About Me
About Me
I am a forgiving soul, but not a doormat. I have learned that some people are just not good for me so when I meet a mean spirited, angry or manipulative person I have learned to say "no." I also believe that we have value apart from what we possess, have done or can do because we are all created by God. I didn't make this up I'm sure, but it fits with my favorite quotes; "always tell the truth, even if you think it will hurt, because the truth will only hurt for a little while, but a lie will hurt for a lifetime."
Education
College of Charleston, 1981
Charleston, SC - Psychology
University of South Carolina Law School, 1986

Music
Alison Krauss, Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette, 3 Doors Down, Snow Patrol , Five for Fighting, Norah Jones, Sting and John Mayer. People tell me there is too much "angst" in Sarah's music, but I find it healing because her lyrics are so "human." When you think about it, more than 50% of popular music is about life's bummers. She just puts the skunk on the table so to speak.
TV Shows
I don't watch much TV, but when I do I like comedy and suspense. "Saving Grace" has become a favorite. I like the idea of a "guardian angel." I'll also watch college sports - especially football - on weekends. I think Jon Stewart (Daily Show) is funny - and intelligent.
Movies
Damn, I like so many movies. I tend towards movies that were not big box office hits, but have wonderful characters and a good story. Ripple Effect and The Healer are two that fit that description. I also liked Sideways, the "Bourne" movies, Love
Actually, Dead Poets Society, Astronaut Farmer, Shawshank Redemption, My Cousin Vinny and Trading Places. (old Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd movie)
Books
Traveling Mercies, Bird by Bird, The Real Lincoln, Original Intent, Ten Things You Should Know about Love, Marriage and Relationships, Mere Christianity, Boundaries, The Road Less Traveled, the Bible, and a book I am working on .... but have not finished.
Quotes
"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other." - John Adams ~~~ "If you can keep your wits when all around you people are losing theirs, then you clearly don't understand the gravity of the problem." - unknown ~~~~~ "Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity. " - Einstein ~~~~~ "So when you feel your thoughts grow cold, and the world you left behind grows bold, it's best to let it all go, just pass you by, or misery and loneliness will bind you...... you'll never have wings to fly." - me
