About Me

    About Me

I love people, I'm a real social being & would prefer good company over my own any day. Looking for a green elephant - feel free to apply. Love sports - baseball is my favorite American sport, & my favorite player is Mike Lowell; I do sadly always have tremendous difficulty with NFL rules & it stops me being able to get "into it" - nothing makes any sense to me, nothing. My male friends always tell me they don't even understand my questions. That's how bad it is. If any of you guys out there want to help me & feel like trying to break down a formation or two, give me a shout. Otherwise, some random trivia about me: I'm a half-decent cook; Love ice-cream, chocolate, coffee, lady grey tea; Hate to be without half & half for my coffee (can't get it in the UK, I'm addicted, especially to the flavored varieties!); I'm a teeth-grinder; My toenails are always painted; I'm 5'5"; Enjoy going to the gym at 5:30am wearing a baseball cap, knowing I haven't showered yet & my hair looks like a bird's nest without the hat!; Love New England - I lived in Philadelphia for 4 years when I first came to the USA in 2000 but much prefer this area; I have a strange, inexplicable obsession with lighthouses; Enjoy a cold Sam Adams any time, but I also like a glass of wine (any color, any country, but I do somewhat favor the Australian/NZ wines) & I'm friends with Jack Daniels too. I once had a Scorpion Bowl & it went "straight to my head". American public restrooms perturb me - too much gap at the side of the door - call me old-fashioned but I don't like onlookers to be able to look me in the eye while I piddle; Another pet-peeve of mine is folk who leave shopping carts abandoned in the supermarket parking lot; And by the way, what did you people do with all our vowels? :) I'm somewhat "technologically challenged", but I do love my iPhone. Some things I hate to be without every day: early morning CNN, my watch, earrings & lip balm! Oh & a/c in the summer, that's not negotiable......And finally, no shellfish please - I'm allergic. The night would only end badly.....

    Music

Varied music tastes from Justin Timberlake to the Red Hot Chilis to The Beatles. I especially like Indie music & any of its variations, particularly British stuff like the Kaiser Chiefs. Also love Jack Johnson, The Dropkick Murphys, The Killers, Scissor Sisters, Coldplay, Maroon 5, Rob Thomas, David Gray, James Blunt, Travis, Paul Weller, Elvis Costello

    TV Shows

Ultimate all time fave American show is Frasier & I still watch all the re-runs religiously! Like to get my BBC America fix too, mostly so I don't forget how to speak properly :) CNN is a must in the morning. Overall I'm not a big TV watcher, I tend to have it on as background noise if I'm not watching baseball. I do like the CSI's though, I must admit. And the Law & Order's. And strangely I enjoy One Tree Hill when it's on - am I the only person over 21 who likes this program? Oh & by the way, I can't bear any reality TV!

    Movies

That's easy - the Bourne Trilogy! Before that, my other favorites were the Indiana Jones series. Mostly I like thrillers, comedies....Last movie I saw was "Body of Lies" which was awesome (if not brutal) - I'm becoming a Leonardo DiCaprio fan, one movie at a time. Oh no, actually the last movie I saw was on the plane in the New Year: "Nights in Rodanthe". It made me cry.

    Books

Psychological thrillers are my favorite reads. I use movies and books to escape because I read so much scientific literature for my job, so books and movies have to provide me with interest that I don't have to concentrate on too much.

    Quotes

My first boss always told me "Never practice self-doubt". It's the one quote that has always stayed with me over the years. I can't say I always abide by it, but I at least have it in my brain! A guy I know once told me "You only get one chance at a first impression" - I think this is great advice in all walks of our life, & it certainly made me stop wandering around the supermarket in my Red Sox cap quite so often!
