About Me
I am passionate about creating things, building people up, and helping others. I am also passionate about my kids (high school and college juniors for 2010-2011), my faith, lifelong learning, quality-made vintage things (old wood is beautiful - I love hardwood floors!), and having some green around me in my environment - I'm originally from Seattle. :-D I've been in all 50 states and have found beautiful places in all of them. Each place has its own unique natural beauty!

When I'm caught up on the "must do"s, I like to read, sing, sew, restore vintage sewing machines, quilt, catch up with my friends online, do yardwork/improve my backyard (in my dreams its gorgeous!), make minor home improvements, learn new things, and make costumes for local stage productions (March/April and September/October are particularly busy times for me). I especially love trying to figure out how to make an unusual costume -- or make a costume have the right "period" look.

Music
I grew up on classical music, loved studying to Baroque or classical guitar, and discovered big band, jazz, and stuff from the 50s and 60s as a young teen, especially Motown and R&B. Then I discovered Chicago, Bread, James Taylor, Jim Croce, and other 70s soft rock. The 80s found me listening to mostly artists like Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, 2nd Chapter of Acts. Beginning in the late 90s I was into the "new country" listening to the likes of Clint Black, Brad Paisley, Josh Turner, Buddy Jewell, Martina McBride, Wynonna (that girl has PIPES!). I like most music as long as it has at least two of the following: rhythm, melody, harmony, and clever or insightful lyrics, and is performed by good musicians who love what they are doing and are having fun doing it!
TV Shows
The original Star Trek and all its derivatives, I Love Lucy reruns, the old Twilight Zone (they could really tell a story then - haven't watched the new one much). Former favorites no longer on the air: Lost, Heroes, Alias, ER, Robin Hood (on BBC America). Current favorites include Castle, Eureka, Warehouse 13, Fringe, Chuck, House, Psych. I could come up with more if I had to. :-) ...Unfortunately, some of those are on at the same time, and I canceled DISH last winter, so I only get to watch a few of them now. I try to catch up on Hulu sometimes. :-)
Movies
I love old movies, especially from the 30s and 40s. Maltese Falcon, Roman Holiday, North by Northwest, various screwball comedies. I also love musicals - Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Oklahoma, Singing in the Rain, Fiddler on the Roof. From the 70s/80s - Star Wars (now "IV"), Close Encounters, Yentl. More recent: Men in Black, Notting Hill, Sleepless in Seattle (it's HOME!), the first Matrix, the Rocketeer, LOTR trilogy, Iron Man, Monsters Inc. And the first movie I ever saw: Lady and the Tramp. :-)
Books
I Love Books! Mysteries, historical fiction (if accurate and well done, a great way to get a "feel" for an era!), the Amelia Peabody books by Elizabeth Peters, the Bennie Harper books by Earlene Fowler, the Elm Creek books by Jennifer Chiaverini. Plus everything the kids have brought home from school, favorites from my childhood, books on costume design, sewing, and pattern design.
