About Me
I love going to see bands, going to see comedians (just saw Cinematic Titanic!!), volunteering at my local animal shelter, taking classes, diners, museums, history, vintage clothes, classic cars, UK television, This American Life, NPR, classic movies, horror movies, British food, animals, red lipstick ... and Yorkshire.
Music
Basically, alternative music: The Smiths, Morrissey, Joy Division, Smashing Pumpkins, Mogwai, Pixies, Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, the La's, ride, Stone Roses, Courteeners, Foals, Glissando, Oasis, iliketrains, explosions in the sky, White Stripes, Von Bondies, Guided by Voices, Catherine Wheel, the Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Ramones, Cocteau twins, This Mortal Coil, the Horrors, Cinematics, VHS or Beta, Editors, New Order, Breeders, 80's new wave in general, rockabilly and Hank Williams and Johnny Cash to make me well-rounded.
TV Shows
I actually don't see that much TV! When I do watch, I like Mystery Science theater 3000, Doctor Who, the IT crowd, Father Ted, Mighty Boosh, Seinfeld, gok's fashion fix, Snog Marry Avoid, the Office (US or UK), Ghosthunters, Turner Classic Movies, biography channel, history channel. I love old Warner Brothers Cartoons, Spongebob, and Metalocalypse. I love Eddie Izzard and Mike Birbiglia, comedians-wise. You won't catch me at home watching American Idol or Dancing with the Stars.
Movies
I love going to the movies, but my favorites tend to be classics or more obscure films: Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, Billy Liar, Babyface, Carnival of Souls, Waterloo Bridge, Rebecca, Mildred Pierce, Stella Dallas, A Taste of Honey, Frankenstein, Freaks, the Women, Stage Door, Now Voyager, Dark Victory, King Kong, Nosferatu, Cabinet of Dr Caligari, Coraline, Tim Burton films, Harry Potter films, comic book films (like Xmen, Spiderman or Batman), 1950's horror or scifi, vampires and werewolves, classic movies in general, British films, independent films. My favorite actors are Christopher Eccleston, Gary Oldman, Barbara Stanwyck, Jimmy Stewart, Boris Karloff, Bette Davis, Albert Finney, Tom Courtenay, and Jean Harlow. I really don't like ZOMBIES, Saw films or "chick flicks".
Books
Far From the Madding Crowd, Sister Carrie, Jane Eyre, Jude the Obscure, Wuthering Heights, the Jungle, Heart of Darkness, Adam Bede, Catcher in the Rye, We Have Always Lived in the Castle, trashy biographies, weird history, Trinny and Susannah books, Sandman comics, and I am trying to understand John Wesley. I think I understand Sandman better.
Favorite Authors: Thomas Hardy, the Brontes, Theodore Dreiser, Edith Wharton, Willa Cather, Jane Austen, George Eliot, Virginia Woolf, William Faulkner, Emile Zola... I am a little bit rock-starry about Thomas Hardy and the Brontes, though.
Quotes
"Somebody might have come along that way who would have asked him his trouble...But nobody did come, because nobody does." Thomas Hardy, Jude the Obscure.
"Poor, obscure, plain, and little"-- Charlotte Bronte. I am not exactly those things, but I know how she feels.
