More deeply engaging new Members is definitely on my list of to-do's!

From a technical perspective we can default thread subscriptions to "on" but I think that would be annoying for a lot of folks, so we choose not to do that....

Important distinction.

And, I recognize that much of the time this can also come form a desire to have FUN, but when the fun is (even unintentionally) at the expense of someone else, it's a problem.

Here are a couple of good examples. I am not singling out these threads in particular... there are countless examples of this every day.

There is no reason to intentionally yank the threads off-track like this. And absolutely no reason for the usual suspects to join in and accelerate the process. It's not humorous and it's not fun. It's obnoxious and rude to the other posters in the thread, who will probably not be able to get their discussion back. Often the "thread wreckers" will carry on their "witty" irrelevant discussion across several threads at the same time.

Making a random comment and then contributing something to the thread is one thing. But this behavior is almost OCD-ish in nature. There's no reason for it. Thus my request (again) for a dedicated forum where those who are apparently addicted to this kind of posting behavior, to have their own sandbox to play in.

I vote for keeping Everything Else ... which is a place for eclectic stuff that just doesn't fit elsewhere, but adding a ChitChat Forum for banter, flirting etc. Which is very fun when that's what you want, but does get in the way sometimes.
