These are extraordinary times for sure... the last 9 years or so have tested all of us... These times are similar to those times just prior to WWII when Roosevelts new deal was on the table...
I think you're right about the parallels. Although what I'm not sure of yet, is whether we're also getting the visionary Roosevelt part now, or is it just the well-intentioned but ineffectual "Hoover" phase that preceded him?

It is easy to criticize the current government for the steps it is taking to solve the current economic problems... What I don't get is how the world forgot that it was the rebooblicans (mispelled on purpose) who deregulated banks, creating the, "I can do what I want atmosphere," paving the way for this to happen in the first place. Yes, the rebooblicans created this mess leaving someone else to clean it up.

Oh, no question about it! Despite all the laughable 'winger attempts to "re-write history" and blame everyone else, from Obama to Clinton to Carter(!).

But I'm not so impressed that the administration has basically re-hired most of the same guys who ignored all the warnings and "facilitated" this mess to begin with. And most of all, that Wall Street continues to (successfully) resist any rules or oversight on the 400+ TRILLION DOLLAR over-the-counter Derivatives Market, that really precipitated everything (of which the sub-primes are but a tiny piece). And they STILL don't know the true extent of the damage, because (duh) it's all unregulated!!

Roosevelt successfully pushed thru modern financial regulations despite heavy resistance from Wall Street. It remains to be seen whether Obama will do the same.

But "Rebooblicans"... I like it!!

I worry that Wall Street has learned nothing but that they are too big to fail.
I agree that the deregulation of the securities market by the previous administration started all this economic mayhem. But the 'bailout pay master' is a piddling attempt that does not address the true problem.
So I guess I'd ask Obama some pithy question about the financial mess.

Oh...you mean that isn't the Obama Reality TV show?

He's on so much I truly have reached a limit of how much I care to watch (and I like him). Thank goodness it's seems to have tapered off some what in recent months. Yes, I want to be reassured some one is doing something about the mess this country is in, but could we maybe get at least one other speaker to give us the message just for a little change in pace.
