Maybe my age is showing; but I get AT LEAST 100 texts a day. These are all basically from the same 5 or 6 ppl. If the bane of my existance is trying to weasel his way back into my good graces; it's more like 200 a day. The only text messages saved in my phone are the pictures & video of said bane's mother on the pole at the club the night of my birthday. Go, Nana, it's my birthday!! (you can actually hear me scream that; what you don't know is I looked at the brother of the bane and said BLACKMAIL hee hee)

I don't think it's a guy thing. The bane of my existence doesn't purge; and I've hung him that way a few times. LMAO

I'm too lazy to delete texts. After about 100 the old ones erase themselves.

It was reported a couple of weeks ago that some young teenage female was walking down the street in NYC blithely not paying the *least* bit of attention to anything else but her texting, and walked right into a open lidless manhole, and fell into a sewer!

When she got home the mother said "Ewwwww, she smells bad now".

Dumb azzes.

My brother told me cell phone users and texters are in 2 classes ~~~ the people that can afford them AND have a legitimate use for them

and those who don't need them, can't afford them, but have them anyway and babble away on them all day long.

HUGE overabundance about children and young women who are the worst abusers of the devices and are in the latter category....

Texting is retarded and incontrovertible evidence of the utter and total dumbing down of our language.

ugh

Sorry, but I would have to disagree that texting is "retarded". I'm actually writing this post from my BB, or "texting", so to speak. Ill try not 2 dmb it dwn 2 mch thow.

I get about 50-70 texts from my SO per day. Are most of them needed, well that's up for debate, when you are thousands of miles away it is nice to know that you are just a thumb tap away from someone you love, but as far as anything "useful" being said, maybe one out of a 100. I also get about 10-20 from co-workers a day. Guess that kinda puts me into the "need" category while i'm here but when i'm home I fall completely into the other category, minus the can't afford part. Unlimited texting is so cheap now I don't see how anyone couldn't afford it and with the amount cell companies in the US charge for voice minutes, texting becomes an even better alternative.

As for children and young women "babbling", no offense, but isn't that what they would be doing if placing a voice call? Same stuff being said, different method. So what is really the difference?

I don't agree that it is "dumbing down" of the language either. It is short hand, which this particular form has been around for almost 2 decades. It didn't start with cell phones. It started with computers. IRC (which has been around for 20 years or so), chat rooms and instant messangers are what started it. I've also been around to several countries and have seen how they text in native languages and it is no different anywhere in the world. It is just simply short hand. You only get so many characters per text message (140-180 depending on the phone and carrier) so you have to chop some words up or cut some unneeded ones out.

Anyways, I have no idea what the original post was about. I'll have to look back and check it out. Lol just wanted to voice my opinion on this one.

oh, and emoticans, aka smiley faces, like the one you used in your post are derived from this cell phone short hand, or dumbing down of the language as you would call it. I think someone is just jealous a 5 year old can text faster than them. Haha.

why??

FYI.... keeping old texts and correspondance because I can't be bothered to delete them has came back to bite me in the spanking zone.
It is best to delete your messages as they come. Having excessive messages on your phone drains your battery and makes it sluggish. At least for "smart" phones. Older generation phones usually auto-delete after a 100 texts.....

......Hmm, that makes me think, if my phone truly was "smart", wouldn't it auto-delete to keep itself from performing poorly? I need to send it back to school.

Maybe it's not a "smart" phone but an "educated" phone. And it ditched class that day.

I just wanted to say that I only get about 5 texts a week, and I am careful about purging or using any extra functions because I have already accidentally banned myself from 3 forums.

I don't know if you meant to sound like a complete azzhole; but yeah; that's how you came accross.

As for children and women babbling....well.....the your post is an example of a man, well, babbling.

I never stated that texting is my sole focus or even a major focus of my day. I happen to be a full time college student; with a 3.5 gpa and a permanent place on the Dean's List; a single mother of a happy and well adjusted 5 year old; and a fantastic accountant. No part of my life suffers from the fact that I have (and can afford) unlimited texting. In fact; as the great majority of my family is 6 or 7 states away (and some even farther) texting is an easy way to stay in touch and extremely cheap as well. Also; due to my hectic schedule; texting is how I let the important people in my life know that they are, indeed, still important.

Now; when my best friends and I are telling secrets and so text each other from the same room; you could call that silly. At which point; I'd inform you; when you are paying my cell phone bill I'll care about your opinion.

The only reason I liked texting a bit was becasue it was an unobtrusive way of asking if I could call them. I am 3 times zones away I don't know if they are in the middle of something ( ie work/dinner/traffic / movie )
