Nope, not a guy thing. I delete most messages, including voicemail. I also clear the call logs in my mobile at least twice weekly. I don't like 'clutter'. I will keep PMs and emails if they mean something to me. I keep all written personal mail and keep financial statements etc for 7 years. Then I shred it.

I delete all text messages within minutes of getting them. It might be more of a "guy thing" because my best friend...well her text in box usually fills to capacity every three weeks or so (that's 250 texts, people!) and she doesn't see the need to delete anything until she needs to make room for more texts.

I tend to keep emails for quite a while-especially from friends. Once in awhile, I go through my in box and delete mail from people who are no longer in contact, messages that are no longer current. I tend to hang on to every piece of correspondence that I get from a lover. If that lover becomes and ex-one of the more painful tasks that I have is to delete all that history.

Maybe it *is* a "guy thing"....

I delete messages on my answering machine as soon as I've listened to them, I delete all vocal messages, text messages and the call log on my mobile every day, I keep my e-mail in-box to a minimum, if anything needs to be saved I save it in a folder with the company/persons name, I clean out those folder regularly.

A buddy of mine is an Air Force retiree. She kept unit-oriented mail, but at home deleted personal mail so fast she sometimes forgot what they said.

Me, I am accruing points for my own personal apocalypse. I delete every email that tells me to send to 10K friends in 10 seconds or else, 7 friends to show them I love them (not), everyone on my mailing list so I can get a free laptop, and the really tiring powerpoint shows for something with butterflies, puppies & kittens, and cute illustrated flower-encrusted children in gingham with music box background tunes.
(looking for a smiley with its finger stuck down its throat)




Real sentiment I save, in the awe-inspiring notes from friends as they pass through the events and feelings of their day to day lives.

I am predicting they do. The way it was explained to me was keeping old texts was weird and a huge Red flag!!
Something about keeping records of any lil thing I happened to say/write sober or not is not convying trust on her part.

I have deleted old texts on my phone only when the inbox filled, and I kept a couple that made me laugh or smile (so not even a total purge). Isn't in woman's nature to bring up past incidents in a fight? With texting, there's actual physical evidence to prove you are right!

Are you asking about the risk that a new partner discovers you retained communications from an old partner?

I will delete old e-mails from a past partner, but I don’t specifically do so … I get to it when I get to it. I usually only keep ones that are really funny or have some information I wish to save, others I delete periodically anyway.

the 2nd last relationship I was in was sooooo long ago I don't think cell phone and lap tops were invented yet. So I don't think any current sweetie has to worry about that happening
