My dog is getting old and likes to bark at anything she thinks is moving when she looks out the front window. She has very clouded vision, by the way. So the last few nights I've closed the blinds when the sun goes down and go on to do my thing. In the meantime, she's starting to sit in the front hall and bark at the front door as if there is someone there. During the day she will only do this if someone is on my front steps ringing the doorbell. But now it's night time, I'm alone in the house and my dog is barking like crazy. I go to the front door, look out and see nothing...She stops for a few minutes. I go back to what I'm doing and....she starts barking again. I'm starting to feel very unsafe. I live in a country town with farm fields around and it's very quiet at night. My dog's barking is making me feel like I'm being watched by the Boogeyman.

I had a pet who get very old and started acting funny. Broke my heart. So do you think it's the dog acting funny or someone out there?

That would scare the s**t out of me as well. When I had my dog and she did that, I would check the outside as well which is pretty stupid if there really was someone out there.

when i used to live in ca i would always know beforhand if when iwas sleeping an earthquakes was going to happen,i would wake up shortly befor and then it would happen, i found out that days or even weeks befor one occurs it will put out a sound that some people and most dogs can hear, dogs are great warning devices as we as people lack the stong scences to detect the warning signs of things to come,if there is somthing prowling around out there you can put up some of those photo electric flood lights to scare them off, or it could be as you suspect your dogs getting old and his sences are playing tricks on him

If you are seriously concerned about someone being outside, you could install a light on a motion sensor. I've lived out in the country with one of those on a house--the down side is that it also came on when there were deer passing by (frequently) and on windy days in the fall when leaves were flying past the sensor. It would make me need to look out the window to make sure nobody was out there!
