CSC friends, I'm giving up diet pop (soda, for you Americans). For good, this time.

I could use some support around this. I know that stoopidity is the way through it.

Good luck!

Istumbled ontoa somewhat effective substitute at Costco (do they have those in Canada?) that is this weird juice called Acai berry. If you mix it with equal parts club soda, it's really good. All my friends who've tried it liked it as well, and my kids are hooked on it.

I've given up smoking for a month+ now. I feel like I have gotten through the worst of it, but every now and then I catch myself missing the "reward" factor. For instance, I didn't think about smoking at all yesterday until I finished doing the dishes in my kitchen and walked back to my computer and my mind was ready to 'light up to celebrate a task being completed' until I consciously remembered, that's a no-go. But whitetip is right, in a week or two you won't miss it anymore.

I you are drinking soda for caffeine, you are going to have a some pretty miserable few days if you body is missing the drug. Are you giving up caffeine or just looking to ditch the empty calories that soda brings? I don't drink (much) soda, but I drink a ton of unsweetened coffee with 2% milk.

You guys all get cookies.

I drink the diet stuff, and I'm really looking to stop with the artificial sweetener. The psychological aspect of it will probably be the hardest - like you, RIF, I use it as a reward. But if you can give up smoking, I can give this up...

I had a terrible headache yesterday that I'm thinking may have been from having no caffeine. I may start to drink coffee for a while and tackle giving up caffeine later.

I'll look for that acai juice, lacedwithhope.

I'm definitely addicted to coffee, but about three times a year I detox myself off the caffiene by slowly switching over to decaf until I'm on 100% decaf, then I'll stay on that for a month or so before going back to the "hard stuff," heh. You said you're trying to get off the fake sugar, but too bad, 'cause in summer when it's hot I LIVE on Crystal Light! I use the individual packets that you mix with your bottle of water (and for all you greenies - I recycle my kid's soda bottles and other water bottles and refill 'em with my yummy well water). I also keep a couple of bottles of water in the freezer so if I'm going to be outside I take a frozen one out with me along with my Crystal Light and by time the CL is either warm or gone the frozen one has started to melt and I have ice cold water. But I dunno how to get you off the sweetener, guess you'll just have to tough it out. (pretend there's a sad face here - emotis aren't working on this computer today, gah)

Good for you, Faira!

I didn't want my kids hooked on soda so right from when they were little, I've bought seltzer. They either drink it plain or half orange juice/seltzer. It's a nice way to get the fizz without the artificial sweeteners.

You go, Faira. I don't keep soda in the house, so if I want one I have to go out and get it. And most of the time, it's not worth dragging three kids out for.
