Does anyone have any favorite Bible verses to share?

Some folks have a "life" verse too.

Can you explain why these particular verses have had such an influence on you?

I don't really have a favorite verse, but I love the whole story of Abigail. She was married to a real jerk, and his bad attitude could have gotten them all killed. But Abigail went ahead and did the right thing, and in the end... she got David!

It's in 1 Samuel 25, but it's long so I won't quote it.

Thanks chawks. Abigail was a fascinating woman, to be sure.
Don't worry about quoting a long passage. I think we have room!

As I have mentioned a couple of times before, I was a young teenager in a difficult living circumstance when I became a Christian. So many things about my life I didn't understand. I felt utterly and completely lost and empty.

My favorite verse then was Romans 8:28. We know that all things work together for the good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.

With chaos swirling around me, I held onto this verse in my heart for the security that no one else could give me.

Which reminds me of another verse in Psalms. Whom have I in Heaven but thee? And there is none upon the Earth that I desire more than thee. Psalm 73:25.

Okay, you said it...

John 20: 10-18

10Then the disciples went back to their homes, 11but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

13They asked her, "Woman, why are you crying?"
"They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him." 14At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.
15"Woman," he said, "why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?"
Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him."
16Jesus said to her, "Mary."
She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher).
17Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' " 18Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: "I have seen the Lord!" And she told them that he had said these things to her.

What I like about it is that Mary Magdalene went there, not expecting to find a risen Christ. She actually assumed that his body had been stolen. It shows that she wasn't just seeing what she expected to see, that there was a thought process involved.

That was great, chawks!

You think that was long? Your post would be considered skimpy by some of the other posters.

It is a wonderful passage. Chawks, you are able to see beyond the printed words. I can see that the Bible and the people in it are real to you.

You most certainly have God's Word in your heart.

The first time I read the Song of Solomon, I was.....Enthralled.

When spoken aloud, there is no more beautiful way to describe Love and Desire, in my opinion. If I had to pick just one.....

I am my Beloved's
And my Beloved is Mine
He Feedeth among the Lilies.

Aw, Sandy......I imagine the dearness of this scripture has only grown for you this past year. Bittersweet.

It is both profound and elegant.
