You've heard it, you may have even read it on bumper stickers..."shit happens". Do you believe that or do you think we have some control over our own universe/destiny?

We all have some control over our destinies. As I told my daughter once "there will always be someone who can impact your destiny, who can throw a monkey wrench into your plans. How you deal with it defines the type of person you will be."

"I can't control my destiny, I trust my soul, my only goal is just to be. There's only now, there's only here. Give in to love or live in fear. No other path, no other way. No day but today." ~Jonathon Larson

I believe we might deter ourselves from our 'path' by making certain choices but in the end if something is meant to be then it will be.

Are those two mutually exclusive? I mean do you know someone that doesn't have bad things happen to them?

If you think others have it easier/better than you then you don't know them.

Obviously we are not on the same page. As usual you have some assumptions that are far out there.

Ok, well that's kinda hit and run it seems. You said" Do you believe that or do you think we have some control over our own universe/destiny?"

And I said "Why are they mutually exclusive?" because I don't see why sh*t can't happen AND we have some control over our destiny.

And to that point I asked if you, anyone, knows anyone that doesn't have bad stuff happen to them. And further to the same point I said that if you think you do know someone who has complete control and nothing bad happens to them then you probably don't know them at all.

So I've no idea why we're on different pages or what far out assumptions I'm making, or why you would say either of those instead of just asking what I mean.

(How does anyone know the difference if they never know who the 'causer' is? Isn't is just easy to say that whatever happens is meant to be because it's happened? I always find it hard to connect events that happened with someone wanting to make them happen.)

Go back and re-read your post. You explicity referred to me and that if I thought others were better off than me that I didn't know them. That is where I said you had some false assumptions. I didn't refer to my life being easier than anyone elses. Take your arguments elsewhere.

Well I guess yes and no... I said "you" so you're technically right but the statement itself, which was "If you think others have it easier/better than you then you don't know them." doesn't really have anything to do with you in particular.

I used "you" to mean everyone just as in an general rhetorical question like "So you're walking down the street and you see such and such..." it's exactly the same as "if someone is walking down the street...".

And I certainly never said or implied that you claimed your life was easier than anyone else's. In fact I made not a single statement about your personal life, I was talking to the ideas you presented.
