Thanks Rouge, fortunately my son did his tours and is now home for good. We are really fortunate in that the only lasting damage to him was a little loss of hearing and some wear and tear on his knees. I know there are way too many who can't say that. And yes I did get very frustrated with many of my supposedly conservative friends who had no clue what having a child in the military really means.

Your question reminded me of a quotation most often attributed to Disraeli or to Churchill. The quote is, "If you are young and not liberal, then you have no heart; but if you are old and not conservative, then you have no brain." I'm not sure, however, things can be generalized this way.
