As someone said earlier - the real issue here is trying to play word games to get around what the Bible says.
Back to the OP - if you don't want to believe that the word fornicate includes pre-marital sex- then that's your choice - but it doesn't mean it isn't true. It wouldn't matter if you convince everyone on this board that it isn't true, and it doesn't matter if you can find 1 or 100 churches that would say it isn't true - God meant what He meant. Your argument isn't with those on the board who do not agree with you and it isn't with the conservative church, it is with God.

We all, as sinful humans, like to come up with nice little words to describe our sins because the words the Bible uses come in those annoying statements telling us just how wrong we are. We all do it. My personal favorite - I spent most of my life referring to myself as "strong-willed", until God showed me that was "stubborn" - and then He led be to all those passages about being stubborn and willful and opened my eyes to where and why it really is a sin. We even come up with nice little words to describe other people's sins because we don't want to have to face up to the truth of what is going on around us.
We say "premarital sex" instead of "fornicate". We say "extramarital sex" instead of "adultery". We say "sexual fetish" instead of "perversion". We say "goal oriented" instead of "greedy". We say "overeat" instead of "gluttony".
The list is endless. Changing what we call it doesn't change what it is. When we play word games - we are only fooling ourselves.

Hebrews 13 (I forget which verse) states, "Marriage is honourable in all, but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge". In 1st Thessalonians chapter five, the Apostle Paul exhorts, "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication." In !st Corinthians, Paul plainly tells us that those who make a practice of sins, fornication among them, shall not inherit the kingdom of God. "And such were some of you, but ye are washed, ye are sanctified." It is clear that Christians are expected to obey God's commandments.

I believe it is. The Bible declares that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb.13:8) To follow Jesus means to be (or at least trying to be) like Him. It's clear in Scriptures that God wants us to walk in purity, different than how we used to live before Jesus found us (1 Peter 4:1-4) In the book of I Corinthians, in the chapter 7 there is a very good Scripture about this matter. God has His standards, I think that we have to adhere to them, not the inverse. When the Young rich guy came to Jesus, Jesus didn't lowered His standards, even when it made Him sad, so in my opinion it's the same with sexual purity.

The bible is very black & white about pre-marital sex, if you're having trouble finding verses regarding sexuality look under fornication in your concordance. I believe the best bible reference is I Corinthians 6:18, but there are at least 90 references in my concordance. I know it's hard to stay pure but God demands it of us and since we are presenting our bodies a living sacrifice and dying to the old man...and in the long run God always knows what the best way for us to live is.

I think this message by John Burke, Pastor of Gateway Church in Austin Texas, is the best response to this post I have heard. God wants us to wait because no waiting is unhealthy. This message tells why (and its one of my all-time favorites).

Note that there is audio and video. Please listen to the audio. The video comes into play about 3/4s the way through the video. It is included because it is being played on the screens at church but you cannot see it. If you listen to it let me know what you think!

When we join ourselves with another person sexually, we become one with them and form a soul bond. This is the reason that God has make guidelines for us. He knows that making soul bonds with others that are not our committed mate that we are married to burdens our soul and messes with our emotions. God doesn't make these "rules" to hinder us but to give us freedom. His ways to the world seem weird and like bondage but when we step out of darkness into His light and His ways we discover the awesomeness of His freedom in the truth. So I don't think virginity is an outdated concept at all... It is not a concept but rather a lifestyle. I am also a nurse. I see what happens from throwing aside this lifestyle that has long term consequences on not only their life but everyone they touch. Therefore, this "concept" of virginity has spiritual, emotional, and physical consequences for whatever side of the "concept" that you want to live on. :-)
