Yes, I find I am eating a lot of mushrooms at present. My favourite way to cook them is with lots and lots and lots of pepper and a generous splash of olive oil. Great topping for steak or tasty addition to a cheese omelette.

Hmm ... think I will have cheesy mushroom omelette for breakfast today!

Anyone else a mushie fan?

Oooo...
If you like mushrooms, try this one next time you're grillin' some steaks...

Place a Portabella mushroom on the grill crown side up for a couple minutes. Then flip it over and put a big gob of butter into the 'cup' and let it melt in.

Oooo yeah !

I love mushrooms. I walked into the grocery store yesterday and they had buy one, get one free on baby Portabellas. I bought two.
I baked some last night to go with the half cornish hen I had for dinner. Otherwise I just sautee them when I'm cooking the meat or fish portion of my dinner. I also like them with pierogies topped with sauteed onions and a dolop of plain NF yogurt. They're an intregal part of my pasta sauce, and a main topping when I make pizza. I very seldom buy the large portabella caps. If I do, it's to use them in place of the buffalo burger or Bocca burger I normally eat. Served on a bun, with sauteed onions and a slice of low fat cheese.
My parents were into hunting wild mushrooms. And they were pretty good at it. I'm still alive so they didn't make any mistakes. I can still recognize about 4 or 5 of the edible mushrooms that grow around here, but...I'm lazy.

OOOOHHHH - I never thought of butter and mushies together. That woudl be very tasty. I'll give it whirl next time I con someone into switching the barbie on for me - I don't like touching the gas thing. I've never heard of portobello before, but it looks like we do get them here. Tassie is pretty big on mushrooms, the Huon Honey Brown mushies are very sumptuous.

Baked? Do you mean you roasted them like a baked potato? How did you stop them from drying out?

Hahahaha - we eat them mostly fried. Tempura mushrooms with a hot, spicy sauce ... wow, talk about a flavour explosion in the mouth!

Mmm.
I love mushrooms!
My faves are shittake, portabello and white button mushrooms. Swiss browns are nice too but I don't get to eat them much.

A good way to cook them is...
Carmelised onions with mushrooms stir fried with butter and a pinch of rosemary.

The onions add a sweetness to the meaty flavour and texture of mushrooms and the butter and rosemary adds richness and aroma.

I love shittakes too. In Asian food mostly, but a good mix up of white button mushrooms and shittakes in a garlicky cream sauce on grilled chicken is delicious too.

Another good recipe would be Asparagus and Mushroom stir fry with lots of white pepper, a dash of soy sauce and then a minute before its off the stove two good spoonfuls of sesame seed oil.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and its the best non-carb meal EVER. Can be eaten with rice too.

Yeah, mushrooms with mushrooms, awesome combo!
