I'm wanting to shake up my routine a bit but I'm also a horrible creature of habit.

I think I need to maybe swap out 4 of my 8 classes / month (currently I do bellydancing 4x/mo and water aerobics 4x/mo) for 4 new classes. But I always get SO nervous when I go to a new class...afraid I won't be able to keep up, that I'll hate it and get frustrated overall, etc.

So, I'm trying to break out of that sort of mind trap I set for myself and expand my horizons.

For accountability purposes, I wanted to post about it here and invite you guyss to maybe post about something you've wanted to try but have been hesitant to. Let's challenge ourselves and each other!!!!

So, it's middle of September -- between now and the middle of next month I will swap out 4 of my tried and true class sessions and try the following 4 classes - all of them are a little scary to me b/c I'm not sure how well I'll do with them - but I'll never know if I don't try!

-Step Plus Abs
-Cycle
-Kickbox Cardio
-Mat Pilates

My ultimate goal is to swap in at least 2 of these new classes, each for 2x/mo, so I'm taking a total of 4 different classes over the course of each month. Variety IS the spice of life, after all!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
OK folks, how about it? How will you challenge yourselves over the next 4 weeks?!
Update from me!
So, on Saturday morning I took Kickbox Cardio and it KICKED MY BUTT! I had to modify some of the exercises and had to stop to rest a few times but even though I kept wanting to quit, I finished the one hour class. The instructor said I did "super awesome" for my first time.
Tonight I'm going to try Cycle (spin) class, if I can make it (it's an early-ish class and they just started making you make RESERVATIONS starting a half hour before class so not sure I will get there in time and/or get in) or if not I might try "Club Circuit Boxing" class.
So far my exercise challenge is going very well for me!
How about you guys? What sort of exercise challenges are you wanting to try?
I think it is great that you are able to try so many new and different things and mix these into your weekly routines. It will definitely help you to not get burnt out.
My challenge is just to stay consistent with what I'm doing. Some days present different challenges so I just have to make sure I stay on track.
Yep, my friend is exactly that way, she needs a very rigid routine to keep on track. I get bored super easily so I need to shake it up.
I tried Cycle (spin) class the other day and I really liked it, but my butt HURTS from that tiny, hard seat. The instructor had a gel seat cover for me but it still hurt. lol So, I'll probably only take it once, maybe twice a month. But I sweated a TON, it was a great workout and my knees held up better than I expected on the standing up parts. I liked it because I felt like I was keeping up with the instructor / class really well.
Later this week, just for fun I'm going to take a Hip Hop class.
Nice, Jen!!! You can do it!!! Keep us posted as you progress toward your mile
Walter -- how's your consistency challenge going?
~~~

OK so I'm now 3/4 of the way through my challenge -- I took Hip Hop class this past Friday night. It was FUN, but not that great of a workout.

For these dance exercise classes, some of the instructors get too caught up in making sure everyone learns the steps perfectly and so the class keeps stopping and there's a fair amount of standing around watching the instructor do the steps. If this was a dance class at a dance studio that would be all fine and good but at a gym the focus should be on keeping people moving constantly.

In any case, it was fun but I was barely sweating at the end so I jumped on the recumbant bike and pedaled my butt off and worked up a great sweat for a half hour, then left the gym.

I probably won't bother with that class again. Bellydancing is fun AND a great workout, so I think I'll stick with that 2x a month for my fun / dance / cardio class.

Later this week I will try my 4th new class, completing my month challenge in just over 2 weeks (GO ME!!!). It will either be Step Plus Abs (if I can get out of work early enough to make it) or if not, I'll try Mat Pilates....I like the idea of a class that has a bunch of ab exercises but people keep telling me to try pilates, so either way I'll be excited to try another new class.

An upside of this challenge is I'm no longer afraid to try new classes, at all.

Anyone else have a challenge they want to share?

Last part of my challenge will be achieved tonight, I'm taking a circuit boxing class -- woo hoo!

HOWEVER, I still have not taken two of the classes I mentioned above so I'll extend my challenge to trying 6 new classes in the 4 weeks (by middle of October). I will be able to try Mat Pilates a week from this Sunday and will figure out when I can squeeze in Step Plus Abs.

Tomorrow, my report on Circuit Boxing. Can't wait to take it, I've got some aggressions to get out LOL

My consistency is going pretty good, but by next week I'll be settled into basketball practices 2 days a week so I'll have to wait and see how well I am able to utilize the other days and stay consistent then.

Once I get into November our games start so that will take away another day. I'll have to find some way to make up for that day by fitting in some more exercise time somewhere else.

Hi, I just joined the group. I love the idea of this group.
I have the most trouble just sticking to an exercise program. I get bored or too sore and I quit, or I miss one day and I fall off the wagon. Anyone find ways to deal with these?

Maybe just stick with it till it's routine. I do good once I get started but once I stop and try to start again it's very hard
