Let it be said that I have personal knowledge of what an Engineer is. I have a problem believing that there are so many Engineers that are single. The occupation itselfis (or can be) quite lucrative and is a very respectable profession, given the many years of college and internship required. That statement leads me to believe thatmost Engineers are happily married and raising their children with wonderful spouses. I will agree that things happen but I cannot see where of the 37 matches I have received, 17 of them are Engineers. For all of the Engineers that are single and looking for someone special, you are being over shadowed by those who qualify themselves as being Engineers. That is a shame in my opinion because the occupation contains a very elite and respectable group of men and women. So my question, Please enlighten me on what qualification you must have to qualify yourself as an Engineer on EH.

Do a search on the term scammer on the discussion boards. You will find your answer there.

I've had a lot of matches from RNs, same kind of situation ...well educated, higher than average income profession. My guess is, both engineers and nurses workalot of hours or odd hours, making it difficult to find and sustain an LTR ...so they use online sites for the 'convenience'.

Engineering professions can indeed be lucrative. However, unless a person is primarily focused on a potential mates' income level, there's more to the picture. I really hate stereotypes, but the 'stereotypical' view of an engineer is that of a geeky braniac with arrested social skills. That may partially explain why you see a relatively high number of engieers in your matches - they just ain't gettin dates cuz they're geeks. Aside from that, it seems it really shouldn't matter how 'elite' a person's job is as that's not necessarily an indication of the quality of their character. I know a few engineers who I wouldn't trust to give me the correct time of day. On the other hand, I know convenience store clerks whom I'd trust with my life.

As for what qualifies one to be an 'engineer'? Well, first and foremost is the training/degree. Mine is in Inustrial Engineering and thejob I currently do involves various types of engineering work. As for why I'm single, let's just say my ex found our wedding vows to be...."inconvenient." To me, the question would more aptly be, "Why are so many of us looking for love in cyberspace?"

I think behind that statement the following was also said," very respectable and required many years of college and an internship".That would not indicate the I was primarily focused on someone's income. I tried to indicate more on the intelligent side than the monetary side. Sorry you took that wrong or if I left you with that impression. As far as "geeky"where are you? Most of the Engineers that I have had the pleasure of working with were far fromgeeky. I guessit's all in your perception of geeky. I still do not know what qualifies someone to be an Engineer on this website. Is it the catch all? The "oh I don't fit any of the others so this is the one I pick"?category, or are all these men really engineers?

Why are so many engineers listed? cause their crazy. I had 2 contact me, send me questions, one closed me out after I sent him the second questions. They were eh questions and I didn't pick any of the wierd ones. The second emailed all day made weird refrences and left me a message that said "I tried....". Still have no clue. So, my limited experience is they are nuts. I'll tell you what if for some odd reason the last one contacts me and I get to meet him. I'll go and report back as to how nuts he is. Sound good?

Sadly scammers use that occupation to describe themselves a lot, as it allows them to explain why they might be in Africa etc. where there is a petroleum industry. I have found a high incidence of fakes/potential scammers listed with that occupation. My conclusion therefore is that it is easier to close all profiles with matches listing themselves as engineers, due to the high probability that the profile will be fake.

How does one explain the high numbers of single, very attractive oil and gas engineers in Central and North FL, when I know of no oil exploration going on off those shores? What of the petroleum engineer in Hawaii? Each time I report these profiles, EH summarily removes them. So the numbers do not lie.

I apologize to all genuine engineers for this kind of stereotyping, but its just too much trauma to go through GC to find that they are most likely a fake.

BTW, I have seen a fake profile using the occupation 'attorney', based in GA. In that case it seemed to me that the person was copying and pasting information from a credit card database into the EH personal description, without fully understanding what he/she was doing.

I'm really sick of the situation, and have chosen not to continue with online dating. Real life is much easier, as I'm the outgoing type anyway.

What qualifications must one have to be listed as an engineer on eH? The ability to select "Engineer" from the list of occupations. That, and a willingness to rationalize or outright lie if one is not really an engineer.

With nothing much in the way of verification, it is pointless to read too much into someone's selections for occupation, religion (what exactly is "spiritual" anyway? It depends!), etc.
