I was in OC with a guy for a while and the last email he sent seemed really excited and he asked me to please email him back. I did and when I went to check to see if he had emailed me back it said match closed. I checked his profile and is sais that he had closed me maybe 20 minutes after I sent an email and that I had closed HIM an hour later. I DID NO SUCH THING! Is it possible that there was some accident or computer misfire somewhere? And who knows, he may have closed me but I know I didn't close him. Has this happened before?

This eHA site is littered with technical glitches and you will find a few threads that discuss problems with the eH site as well. It's probably worth your time to call customer service. Make sure you're talking with a knowledgeable human.

Did you view his Profile from their Phone app?

I had noticed that the Android app will auto-Close the Match for you, if the person has Closed you.

This *seems* to jive with your situation you describe...

(PS: I HATED that it Auto-Closed in the Android app, because it takes away the other side's option of Reopening the Match, in case of the off chance they changed their mind)

Definitely give customer service a call, they can contact him and ask if he would like to re-open the match.

My concern isn't that you did not close your match, but you being oblivious to the fact that your match closed you which means that it doesn't matter if you did not click on the close button.

You probably dragged your feet to get back with the guy as well as delayed meeting said person by prolonging the email process. He got tired of having to wait for a timely response and acted accordingly.

In the future, if you want to respond to a closed match, then contact customer care and request to have said closed match be re-opened. They will send the match an email asking if they would like to re-open a match(you) and go from there.

Yes, the glitch exists, it has been around for a long long time and EH adamantly denies that it happens. Apparently some of the apps have exacerbated this. The only thing that customer service might do for you at this point is contact the guy and ask him if he'll agree to re-open. If he doesn't agree, you are done. EH absolutely will not acknowledge that their software is a hot, barely functional mess.

Good luck with this and let us know what happens; could someone tell me what "OC" is?

OC is Open Communication, also known as eHarmony e-mail or e-mail or just mail . GC is Guided Communication, also known as the steps, the questions, etc.

Thanks for your input. I do realize that matches can close you its a fact of life and had I not received an email from him and replied to said email about an hour before all this happened I would've written it off. It's the fact that he asked me to"please email him back" that makes me think it was an accident. And with someone above saying that the app auto closes I had no chance to talk to him to make sure it wasn't. I promise I'm not being some doe eyed school girl, it just didn't add up.

Thank you, I think this is what may have happened on my side. I only got the app so that I could keep on top of things on the go and he has the app too. Again, I'm not being unrealistic about the fact that he closed me, just given our conversation an hour before it seems unlikely that is was intentional. I emailed customer service.
