Hi everybody, new to both e-harmony and to online dating so I thought why not ask for some feedback,
tried to keep it positive and somewhat detailed but not overly so... thanks in advance for taking the time, any helpful comments will be greatly appreciated.

Tom

----

The one thing I am most passionate about:
Travel--whether it's to another country (something I definitely want to do more of), or just a road trip around the area, I love getting out and seeing new places. Randomly exploring and people watching in virtually any setting, though my favorite spot so far has been the Pacific NW. Besides moving around quite a bit growing up, road trips were a regular thing either for sales trips with my dad around Florida or us driving to Illinois or New England to see family. There can be nothing better than adventuring out with someone special.

The most important thing I am looking for in a person is:
Honesty and communication. Nothing against mutual interests, a good sense of humor, or having that certain spark or connection (all very good and desirable things), I've simply found that being able to communicate openly and honestly, where you can talk about with and say anything to the other person, is a must have.

Basic Information

Occupation:
Government employee
Age
30
Height
6' 1"
Wants Kids:
Yes
Kids at Home:
No
Ethnicity
White, non-Hispanic
Religion:
Christian
Drinks:
About once a week
Smokes:
Never
In my own words
The most influential person in my life has been:

Though I didn't get to spend much time with him, growing up across the country, my grandfather is someone I've always looked up to and admired. He had the patience of a saint, an incredible work ethic (worked three jobs when my dad was growing up), and yet always made family a priority.

The three things which I am most thankful for:

Family/friends
An amazing group of co-workers
My cat Charlie--except, of course, when he's trying to kill me...

Three of my best life-skills are:

Using humor to make friends laugh
Achieving personal goals
Maintaining a network of close friends

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me:

That I'm nowhere near as serious as I may initially come off. I love to make people laugh, even if at my own expense, and try to bring levity to otherwise stressful situations whenever possible. No sense making something even worse by getting overly stressed or negative about things... despite my sarcastic and somewhat self-deprecating sense of humor, I usually have a pretty positive, laid back personality.

The things I can't live without are:

Car--hard to cross the bay every day without it
My spread out family and a few close friends I would do anything for
Mp3 player/music
Phone/laptop
Running shoes

The first thing people notice about me:

That I tend to be somewhat quiet or reserved when first meeting someone. That's part because it does take me a bit to get comfortable and open up around people but also because I'm genuinely interested in getting to know them, getting a read/feel for them, and hearing what they have to say.

My interests
I typically spend my leisure time:

Running/Jogging--just did my first 5k in December 2011 and am currently training to do the Gasparilla half-marathon.
Spending time with a handful of close friends--usually something like dinner, weekly trivia nights out at the beach, meeting up at a low-key bar/pub, never been much for the club scene, would much rather go somewhere that you can hear each other without resorting to yelling and/or sign language.
Golf--the two jobs and shorter days keep me from playing as much as I'd like, can't wait until spring/summer rolls back around so I can get back out there.
Reading--when I have the time that is, always nice to escape the daily grind with a good book (used to be more classics and non-fiction, starting to get into modern fiction though).
Wouldn't mind seeing more concerts this year (always better live in my opinion) and sporting events too; I've got my favorites (Rays, FSU, etc.) but you'd be hard pressed to find something I wouldn't enjoy.
Doing the whole theme park bit (Tampa or Orlando)--don't get me wrong, I love museums, historical sites and more cultural type activities (orchestras, community theater, etc.), but sometimes it's fun to be a kid again, even with my love/hate relationship with roller coasters.

The last book I read and enjoyed:

Can't remember if it was something by Tim Dorsey or Christopher Moore, definitely one of those two though. A good story that makes me laugh, even if or maybe because the characters and/or plot can be somewhat absurd, is always welcome. While I'm always taking recommendations or on the lookout for something new and appealing at the bookstore, it can sometimes be just as good to grab something from the bookcase I haven't read in a while and settle in.

Is there any additional information you would like your matches to know about you?

According to my friends:
My friends describe me as:

Modest
Respectful
Sweet
Intelligent

Just realized the leisure time was way too long (that's what I get for editing in text without remembering the character limits), here's the updated answer there:

Running/jogging-just did my first 5k in Dec., training to do the Gasparilla half-marathon. Spending time with close friends (dinner, trivia nights, low-key bar/pub as opposed to the club scene, prefer to actually hear each other vs. yelling/sign-language). Golf--can't wait until spring/summer so I can get back out there more. Reading--always nice to escape the daily grind with a good book (used to be more classics and non-fiction, starting to do more modern fiction). Wouldn't mind seeing more concerts this year and sporting events too (Rays, FSU, etc.). Even doing the whole theme park bit, sometimes it's just fun to be a kid again...

Good edit above. I'm not your target audience, but..very nice profile, varied, interesting, well written, gives a good sense of who you are.

The only thing you may consider rewording is the passionate about thing. The travel and why /how is interesting....just make sure it sounds like you're around for dating...not a tumbleweed....
Good Luck.
