EHarmony Free weekend is pretty typical around new years day. I guess it focuses on the depressed being alone at christmas and new years resolutionites who want find someone. They also traditionally have free weekends over holiday weekends (memorial day and labor day) and will probably have one again right before valentines day.


The fact new years was on a weekend plays a factor. In the past it was usually done the weekend between new years and christmas.

Another factor is in what effort you put in...did you initiate questions? Or did you waitn for them?

You get what you put in...on free weekends you do get alot of people trying it out so they tend to have no pics on their profile and the profile has little detail. Generally little detail profiles are of people who just used it for a free weekend and never bothered to join.

if you are getting only 1 or 2 matches per day you have done something wrong:

1. your age settings or distance settings are too narrow and have high importance setting on them.

2. you have restricted some other field such as religion looking for only jewish in Iowa.

3. You need to initiate communication with people you are matched with.

4. you have profile or phot issues you need to address by posting it for review on this thread.

Generally with your profiles if you constantly talk about one topic..whether its god, jesus, your child, or runnning...you will scare people away. You only need to talk about it once. Also in your profile you need to get away from cliches and just personalize it from your own experiences/

When viewing profiles dont be so quick to close/archive people...if you are looking for some fantasy man/woman that you dream of getting you are going to be disappointed. You need to be realistic in what you will find. If you area a BBW, dont expect yourself to get some body building stud in aman. You need to stay in your league.

Also unlike what the commercials may give you this impression...you will not find mr/mrs right in a week. It will take a few months to find that person.

I joined EH just this past Thursday without even knowing about the Free Communication event. I've been getting roughly 6 to 8 matches per day and have gone to the open communication level with 3 of my matches. I haven't taken the plunge in getting a paid subscription yet but so far I am happy with the service.

When I first started I would get 7 matches a day. After about a month I get about 2 or 3 a day.
1. I have age set to 26-35 with a 60 mile match range. Med importance.
2. Religion is open to all.
3. I have initiated questions to over 50 people.
4. I have had my profile reviewed by several people as well as my pictures.

I understand FCW are usually during holiday weekends. But my many of my matches truly hadn't logged on to the site in a week or two.

I'm not waiting for anyone. :-) I initiated GC with twelve people from Thursday to Sunday. Profiles without pics don't stop me, but a skeletal profile or one with misspellings usually doesn't motivate me to initiate. I usually initiate with a few people a week. I used to initiate more when I got more matches. Like Lissa, after a month I started to get an average of six matches a week, down from seven a day.

About closing, hmm. I do keep people in Archived or New for a while, most because they're not active. Or I'm just not interested. But I'm careful because I have ended up in GC with someone I really wasn't interested in from the start just wanting to initiate. It's not the worst thing in the world but I'm learning to trust my instincts when to close. Someone said here it is about quality sometimes and not quantity. I try to keep that in mind. That said most of the people whom I close I do so when I see they logged in 'more than three weeks ago'.

But I wasn't just asking about me. I have ideas on why I may not be getting matches, though it's heartening to see others experiencing the thing. I'm a bit disappointed overall in the idea of the Free Weekend. Did anyone have success this weekend because it was a FCW? I'm happy to cheer others on if they did and wonder how the weekends differ from regular times. I started off as a free member and may be again someday so I'm curious.

Same with me except for the profile/pic reviews. I simply think that after a few weeks there are less matches. From what I've read on these boards that's what seems to be the norm. Maybe the thing is if we are doing the above (I've initiated GC questions with about 30 people in a month) is to sit tight and wait?

I think new people did sign up this weekend. I did get more matches. Just not sure what happened from then. I did get responses from two people before and after the FCW. They were paying members, though.

Thanks for posting. I was curious too. :-)

I did have some good communication this weekend. All initiated by them. One closed, one has a holding pattern locked in, one reached stage 4 very quickly (too quickly) and another is just about to hit stage 4. I also received a few IB's but don't count those much because those people could have sent questions if they were truly interested.

I did start GC this weekend with an existing match that had been in my Archive folder. But we're only on stage 2 so I kinda hope he's not a free member . . . He seems in no rush so we'll see. No big activity on my end due to the FCW, though.

I wonder if anyone else out there made it all the way through to OC with people this weekend because it was free?
I did get more responses than normal this weekend. I've been on for just over a month, and communicated with maybe 3 guys total (even though I've sent GC to about 30 guys since I joined.) Got to OC with two of them, then they just seemed to disappear. So much for that. The other never answered my Stage 3 questions in GC.

This weekend, though, I had decent communication with three more guys. Two of them were honest about the fact that they were only on for the weekend, but the other seems to be a paying member. I got to OC with both free members (I guess they felt the need to respond promptly to the GC because time was running out!), and we messaged back and forth a good bit. One in particular seems like a really good match for me. I guess I'll see what happens now!

I have to agree here actually. I even started talking with one of my matches and was really excited. Once the free weekend was up though I can no longer communicate with him even though he keeps trying. This is not fun either, just because I am a college student who can't afford the subscription I can't talk with him anymore.
