Do I have to be a paying member in order to view profiles of other members?

You can receive matches and view profiles, but you will not be able to see pictures, see when people were last active, see who has viewed your profile, or communicate.

If you check it out and decide not to pay for / use the service, don't forget to turn off matching so that people won't continue to receive you as a match.

redmaple pretty much covered it well.

I will add that as a non-paying member you can post a profile and you can post photos which paying members will be able to see.

Keep in mind that EH is NOT a searchable site like Match.com; you can't surf through pages of matches, you only get the 2-7 daily (on average) you are sent by EH.
