This is a great topic..thanks for all of the good ideas. I like them all. The next match I get that replies to my profile I will have to ask them some of these questions..all are great..

I wish some of the people that answer this discussion board would be sent to me as a match! I have gotten more response talking on this part of eHarmony than on my actuall matches!

You all take care.....Pam

I agree Pam! Maybe we should make our own sub-committee for matching ourselves up with people here!
I suggested this on another topic. I think we should do it!

I agree!

So would we start a topic for it or is there another way to get something going?

Since I've found this board I've realized that this is something Match.com does not have (and other matching sites as well). I've been here a short time, but I've had to work at the computer a lot this week, so I come by here when I take a break and read new posts, then respond. (Yeah, I respond a lot -- again, I'm at the computer a lot and I don't have a boss checking what I'm doing.) From what I've seen, it seems to me a community like this is as powerful a tool in matchmaking as 29 dimensions or anything else. We don't just see a profile and possibly have it closed before we have a chance. We get to mix and see what others say and get a sense of someone so we can see if we want to get to know them better.

It would be nice to see what we can do to match people on the forums.

I'm in...
I think opening a forum fo rpeople hat answer your replys is a good thing andmaybe we couid ge a mach going that way!

I totally believe in asking custom questions. It makes things more personal. One should read the other person's profile and ask questions related to topics found in the other person's profile. Some good second questions are: What caused you to contact me? What are your goals and ambitions? Where do you want to be in 2-3 years? What caused you to use this site as a means for findind a mate? What is your most favorite past-time? Who is your most favorite person in your life at this time? What would make your life more complete at this time? If you could return to some geographical place that you have already been before, where would that be? What 3 single aspects about a personare most important to you?

(For women)

1. Grover Cleveland, great president, or the greatest president?

2. Do you make a habit of leaving the toilet seat down?

3. Who is the most physically unattractive man you've ever fantasized about (besides Grover Cleveland)?

What? Those are sure-fire winners, I tell ya!

Squire those are the worst! :P

I haven't asked this but I think these would be good: You've got 5 minutes to leave your burning house/apartment, what do you grab on the way out?

What crime/illegal activity would you most enjoy if you got a get out of jail free card?

If you could pick another period of time/civilization to have lived in what would it be?

I always use two of my own questions everytime... the other one I ask a question that demonstrates that I read her profile and give a damn about her interests... Sometimes I complain if her profile is generic or nonspecific, which is good reason to close me, lol.

I usually ask 2 real questions (about their profile and their MHCS) and a 'fake' one. A joke kind of question to see how they respond. Many people get the joke and answer with a joke respond, others get too caught up in the joke.

One time I asked somebody about their dog (they said they had a 9 year old lab). He replied that it died 2 years ago and she was 13! -big flag there!-

Another time I asked about alternative energy and how it would affect their drinking (it is an interesting link.. corn/soy and hops), anyway, some answer as a joke (great!) and somebody actually know the ordeal (even better), but some dude was clearly upset and felt it was a terrible question to ask!

What I don't like is that if I start the communication they get to pick the 1st set of second questions and vice versa. Therefore I always seem to write my own questions and some guys after seeing that do too, yet nobody has given me their own questions from the get-go. ;(
