So far e-harmony had been semi-predictable, 7 matches a day, 2-3 handsome-interesting ones, 4-5 less so.

For three days now, I have received, mid-day one new match with an immediate request for communication. Really weird-looking, overweight, strange (to me) guys. I'm somewhat weirded out by this pattern. I rarely close matches, but I closed them.

Ever happen to you? What gives, sooo weird...

It just proves (to me, at least) that eH is a sham. I get seven matches a day every day, too. Even if I change my match preferences or click on "find new matches," I still only get seven per day and no more. The vast majority are incomplete, inactive or nonsubscribers. If there are so-called thousands who join every day, then why doesn't eH send more than the allotted seven? That tells me they don't have a very big pool of available, compatible and active matches and are just doling out a pre-set number rather than run out of matches, thus run out of subscribers who get fed up and cancel.

This has actually happened to me several times lately. I think these guys get bored on their lunch hours and join, triggering these mid-day messages. Even more odd, the one I got yesterday was from a guy whose profile wasn't very detailed, and he requested OC immediately. I didn't realize that opening his message to read it was the equivalent of an approval, so I opened it and was uncomfortable with the message due to its overly familiar and somewhat insincere tone. I responded with a brief and somewhat blunt message saying I was about to leave town for a funeral and that I didn't see much common ground in our profiles, but would contact him next week if he would complete his profile. The next morning he had updated the profile, but I was unable to access it, so I assumed he had closed me. Then I got a message from eH with the subject "IMPORTANT: Match Termination Notification." Apparently these are sent when they detect some sort of fraud or potentially dangerous activity and shut down a profile. The 3-paragraph message included some cautionary words about any further contact with this user and instructions for involving eH with my local law enforcement officials if necessary. Wow! I knew I didn't feel good about him, but I had no idea it was that type of situation. I agree the mid-day message may be a red flag for oddballs, but not sure why they are suddenly turning up several times a week.

Count yourself lucky. During my 3 month stint on eH I received a grand total of 150 (that's about 1.5 per day).

Yes - I get it too. A few days ago I was going through my matches b/c I view then archive. And one guy's occupation stood out so I remembered him. So the next day I get the new match email followed by the communication request and from what I remember it was that guy. So maybe when people are new to eHarm and request communication eHarm feels the need to alert us. And yes it was odd to me b/c I usually get matched w/ another professional or someone who would make around the same salary, usually more.

I've found that the midday matches are typically new members or someone who had turned back on matching and hit the Get Matches button. Nothing weird, just someone else to add to your list of matches and to sift through.

Actually eHarmony does dole out matches on purpose. The reason that they do this is so that you can have a manageable number to review their profile and send communication to or close if you are not interested.

What would you do if eHarmony sent you 1,000 matches on the first day you joined. I know exactly what you would do, you would be complaining about that and call eHarmony a sham because they sent you way more matches at one time than you could possibly process.

It would be even worse than that.

She would Close out right away, the many, many of the guys that weren't 10's, without giving each of them proper consideration.

Why? Because she will be thinking...
Look at all these guys! It is raining men!

Then, a week or two go by, all those 10's that she was hoping would be into her, have all bailed on her, or didn't respond, and all those 7's, 8's and 9's that she Closed out earlier, she no longer can get back.

Then we would be hearing from her here about how eHarmony is a sham, because they never send her new Matches, blah blah blah.

I may not agree with many of the things eHarmony does, (especially lately), but doling out only 7 Matches a day is one thing they got right.
