I was under the impression that anyone can post a message on your wall but only those you've designated as "friends" can send an email-type message.

I ask because I got a private message from a complete stranger today, someone I've never even seen post on these boards, and it sounded like a spammed message, especially since it opened with "hi beautiful" and the only photo I have posted here is one of my cat.

What's up with this? How do I block this guy? The *last* thing I expected to find on these boards was form-letter sending bottom-feeders.

Clarification appreciated.

Hi CC - anyone can actually PM you just by clicking on your profile and "send message". Not sure if you can block them, but obviously you don't have to reply so my guess is that if you ignore him he'll disappear soon enough hopefully.

CC or should I say Hi Beautiful

As RSG said anyone can send PMs. You can also block a user, open the message, under their picture is a block user line click on that to block that user.

thanks to both of you. I'm still at a loss; if he has to be on my profile to send a message, why look at a picture of the kitten and write "hi beautiful"? Maybe I should have passed the msg along to the kitten....

I looked at his profile but didn't see the "block user" line. I'll check again.

SO annoying....

The "block" function is, I believe, available when you open the message from your page, not on their profile page. Hope that's right.

I got one of those too. It said "Hi pretty" he said he was a widower, I think, and that he had kids that were older, and he was lonely. I don't remember exactly. I do remember when I checked his profile that his pic was of his (?) sports car (most of the pic) and him (very hard to see). I could see him enough to know he had as much grey hair as my dad! I thought about replying back to say no thanks, but I was too creeped out and just deleted it.

hey - same guy!!! Wow. Now we *really* know we're special. And, as I recall, he said he was from Vermont. Too strange.

Well, I figured out how to block him. Maybe he'll see this thread and figure out his strategy isn't a good one.

*shudder*

The pm's from the guys with the sports cars and "perfect" pictures usually have the same story. They are either widowed or their wife left with the kids to another country. The men are usually part of a ring that gets women "hooked" then asks for cell phones and money. I know of one woman personally who lost several thousand dollars ( she has low self esteem). Just FYI

I've had a few PMs from folk who seem suspiciously like scammers - I usually don't reply & just delete them & nobody has ever harrassed me further, but it's good to know there is a block function too, just in case.
