Thinking about re-upping my subscription, and figured I'd get some feedback first. Thanks in advance!

32/M

Other than your parents, who has been the most influential person in your life and why?
My best friend. For better and for worse, he has shaped my life since college. He helped me come out of my shell and helps me see things in people that I do not notice on my own.

What is the most important quality that you are looking for in another person?
My ideal match is affectionate, low-maintenance, health-conscious, open-minded, and emotionally available.

Other than your appearance, what is the first thing that people notice about you?
I hold doors and pull out chairs and observe other courtesies that are often neglected. I'm a super good listener, and I bring a ready smile.

What is the ONE thing that people DON'T notice about you right away that you WISH they WOULD?
I have a very warm, affectionate side that can be hidden by some first-date jitters. I can be hesitant about "making the first move", even (especially) if the desire to is there!

What are five things that you "can't live without?"
-Purpose
-Stability
-Affection
-Trust
-Independence

Describe the last book that you read and enjoyed. What was it about? What did you like most about it?
The last book I read was "It's Not News It's Fark: How Mass Media Tries to Pass Off Crap as News". It is a critical look at the Mass Media and the go-to stories used when there is a lack of hard news to report. A must-read for someone unfamiliar with the sorry state of contemporary news reporting.

What are you most passionate about?
Right now I am most passionate about building on my self-reinvention journey I began last year. I'm getting myself in better shape, going out more, trying new things, and meeting new people. Almost everything I do now is centered around being a more complete person.

What are the THREE things for which you are MOST thankful?
-My parents, for raising me to be independent.
-My best friends, for helping me see things in people that I miss.
-My past relationships, for always teaching me something about myself.

The four things your friends say about you are:
-Good Listener
-Modest
-Physically Fit
-Articulate

What are three of my best life skills?
-Achieving personal goals
-Communicating my innermost thoughts and feelings
-Finding pleasure and contentment in simple things

How do you typically spend your leisure time?
I work out/run several times a week, and play in an HYP (local civic organization) sports league once a week for most of the year. I go out for a beer or two once a week as well. I still have plenty of room on my social calendar, though, for someone special!

I like this...BUT I note you say that whole "things I missed" in another section too. Thus, it reads like baggage. That either you are cronically bad at judging people or one person you are still hung up on. We've all got it....but you don't need to advertise it.

What is the most important quality that you are looking for in another person?
My ideal match is affectionate, low-maintenance, health-conscious, open-minded, and emotionally available.

I like this too. Really an excellent and mature combo of things (I give a pass for it not being just one) BUT again you later pound on the AFFECTION thing. Dude, I love affection too but three times in one profile starts to send a message...ie my last relationship wasn't and I can't get over it....maybe?

Other than your appearance, what is the first thing that people notice about you?
I hold doors and pull out chairs and observe other courtesies that are often neglected. I'm a super good listener, and I bring a ready smile.

I like this, subject to the above comment
.

This is a variation on what we women frequently see from guys (air, water, food). It's a better version, but it doesn't tell me much about you day to day. You might consider being less literal...A rare steak with horseradish. A hot shower after a morning run with my greyhound Misty. Etc.

Other than "sorry state" which reads negatively, I like this answer quite a lot. Very intelligent.

Right now I am most passionate about building on my self-reinvention journey I began last year. I'm getting myself in better shape, going out more, trying new things, and meeting new people. Almost everything I do now is centered around being a more complete person.

Make sure you hit the "better/more complete" and not "reinventing cuz I sucked before" theme...not sure if you are divorced but it is a good thing about divorce that many of us get to get back to who we really want to be.

What are the THREE things for which you are MOST thankful?
-My parents, for raising me to be independent.
-My best friends, for helping me see things in people that I miss.

Not bad overall. I would watch some of those things affection/bad judge of character stuff you hit over and over. Each time you repeat you are missing an opportunity to share something NEW, something MORE about yourself. Might add some concrete examples too...type of beer/food/music/sports....are you Pabst or Hefeweitzen? Baseball or dodgeball? BBQ or sushi?

Best.

My ideal match is affectionate, low-maintenance, health-conscious, open-minded, and emotionally available.

The first can be misinterpreted, the second is negative, I would rewrite or delete.

I hold doors and pull out chairs and observe other courtesies that are often neglected. I'm a super good listener, and I bring a ready smile.

It says to list one, this is three. I would pick the one you like the best and expound on it a bit more.

What is the ONE thing that people DON'T notice about you right away that you WISH they WOULD?
I have a very warm, affectionate side that can be hidden by some first-date jitters. I can be hesitant about "making the first move", even (especially) if the desire to is there!

I would delete, it sounds ...

What are five things that you "can't live without?"
-Purpose
-Stability
-Affection
-Trust
-Independence

This sound like a check list of what you want in a woman. I would make short answers of what things in life you enjoy that you think would interest someone reading it.

This sounds rather negative which you should avoid.

Make sure these aren't already stated somewhere else. I would combine family and friends into one statement.

The four things your friends say about you are:
-Good Listener
-Modest
-Physically Fit
-Articulate

This should list some things that someone reading it would be able to participate in with you or be able to identify with. Instead of stating you still have room in social calendar, state things you would like to do together such as movies, fine dining, dancing, walks or whatever you like to do on a date.
My comments are in red above.

Hi Members -- the OP's profile has a couple words in it that trigger the moderation filter, so I suggest you do NOT quote it in your replies ... or your replies will also trigger the filter. (Nobody gets an infraction, but it slows things down.)

Just FYI!
Yours,
Sassafras

Sorry for inconvenience!

A lot of moderated posts are quoting a post that was moderated. It's a risk of quoting!!

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks so much! Definitely need to tone down "affection". I agree I need to clarify what I mean by "missing things" (has more to do with interpreting a woman's actions/signals). Also agree I can hit on a few more interesting (and less serious!) aspects of myself.

I agree there an opportunity to be more clear/positive here. Not entirely sure how to put a positive spin, though, on "this-is-me-take-it-or-leave-it and still-hung-up-on-my-ex types need not apply." I've had quite enough of both.

Agree, again, that I can do better with that. Not a big fan of this question; makes it sound like I'm dependent on "things". I'm probably taking it too seriously!

That's one of my big frustrations in this; I haven't a very good idea of what those things are! I am TERRIBLE at coming up with date ideas.

Nothing bad ... it's just the filters are machines and don't read context, so some words that are fine in context are questionable out of context, so the machines turn them over to humans to review.
