Recently I have seen a number of references to sending "Smiles". So I went and looked at one of my match's profiles and noticed that there is a "Send a Smile" button beneath the photo.

So my questions are:
1) When did this feature get added?
2) What is a "Smile"?
3) Is this something non-paying members can send?
4) Can you only send one?

I had never seen the button before and have never received one so I have no clue?

I think it's something you get when the man is tired of online dating and wants to send something out to every match to see if one bites.

Haven't heard of this feature before...maybe it's like a wink on the other dating sites?

It is an ice breaker, but a different form of one as it is not included in the icebreaker tab. If you send a smile, it counts as having sent an icebreaker, so you can't send another... but yes, it is an icebreaker like all the others... as in, non-paying members can send them as well.

Think it got added 2 months or so back... could've been more. I remember one of the advice hosts (Lori or Kate) made or responded to a thread about it explaining how it worked, and that's what my above description is based on... my recollection of things mentioned in that post.

Echoing what Harryross said...

This has been around a couple of months and is nothing more than an icebreaker. I would presume that all of the same rules that apply to icebreakers apply to the send a smile. As I recall, it was rolled out as another way for people to get in touch.

Hi Gr8Guyn2008,

Ditto Harryoss and Micman. Smiles were introduced the early part of March. They're a new form of Icebreaker that doesn't require a message but still gives all members an easy way to let a match know they're interested.

All the best,

PS:
Renee,

Do your Engineers know what a horrible position they put that button in?

They put it *RIGHT* below the Photo box.
People mistakenly click on the "Send Smile", when they just intended to view someone's Photos.

I have had at least 2 Matches, that have sent that IceBreaker/Smile by mistake.
I know because when I go into eHarmony, and check the Match, I am Closed.
When checking the timestamp of the Close, versus the timestamp of the IceBreaker, they are within 2-3 minutes of each other.

Your Engineers need to move that "Send a Smile" button somewhere else on the page.

Hi ScottK,

Sorry to hear that some members may be mistakenly clicking the Smile button instead of the photo link.

Thanks for your feedback, which I will pass on to our Engineering team.

I recently sent a smile by accident as well. Mine occurred as I was clicking on the view picture option. As I clicked, the EH profile loaded an ad (but that's a rant for a different day), shifting the whole page down an inch or so. Before I knew it, I sent a smile.

I'm a computer guru and I know a little something about website design. The website shifting to load ads, placement of the send a smile button, and lack of confirmation to send it is -poor, poor, design.
