Forget calling it "FCW" or "FCE", it's "EHSD"

Atticus, turning off your matching isn't going to do anything for you. When you turn it back on, all the freeloaders will still be in your queue and you'll still get matched up with them later.
Yes, but at that point they won't be able to communicate (except those who have paid for subscriptions), so you won't waste time getting all the way through GC with them only to discover that they can't do OC, which is exactly what all paying members will be spending the next month doing if they don't turn off matching. Refunds should be issued for everyone who pays this month, as far as I'm concerned.

I agree with both hands raised.

Unfortunately, a refund from eHarmony will only happen at such point as when monkeys come flying out of our butts.

And sadly, those monkeys will be the next batch of matches you receive.

At one point, it was possible in eHarmony to be selective regarding who could view your photos, and it was impossible for anyone who hadn't become a paying member to view them at all. This was one of the distinguishing characteristics of eHarmony versus other options, but is now gone like many other things. Now, it's all or nothing. Either your photos are out there, or they're not. No hiding (and I realize that there are some quite vocal people who were in favor of that, so... let them have their way).

eHarmony decided to throw out "discreet" in favor of "revenue". Inexorably, they seem to be moving towards trying to be just the same as other sites.

No offense intended, but honestly I didn't subscribe (at the time I did) to allow myself to be opened up to people who view it as "window shopping".
Perhaps "window shopping" was a poor choice of words. My intent was to say if I see someone I like, it would be an incentive for me to subscribe to EH.

Reading this thread and some others in the Using Eharmony, it seems EH has quite a few dissatisfied customers. My time as an active member was pretty good, minus the angry stalker and a couple of flaky guys. I haven't been a member for more than 2 years and deleted my profile while I was in a relationship. Things have changed a bit but has it been enough. Perhaps EH should focus more on their active customers base and make their experience more rewarding instead of trying to get new members.

The choice of words was fine, I wasn't intending to criticize or imply anything, so if it came across like that it should be corrected. I understand what you say.

Actually, it seems that my experience with eHarmony mirrors yours quite a bit. I, too, first joined in 2008. Reasonably good experience and a very different site than what it has changed to today. The quality of the matches was much higher, and within three months I'd met an especially good one which led to a relationship of many months that in the end didn't work out, but was worth paying for the introduction. After setting it aside for quite some time, I decided to return and found what we have today.

Lots of people clearly snagged during the many subscription drives, very sparse profiles, and to be honest much diminished quality. I am amazed at some of those I've been matched with.

I'd say that in '08, the majority of people (men and women) paid and joined the site because they really were sincere about establishing a quality relationship. They didn't feel a need to window shop, rather they felt that the right person would show up at the right time with a little patience. Not so today. I think these drives have a great deal to do with that.

I agree wholeheartedly with your last sentence as well, the current customer base deserves better.

I feel the Eharmony service is becoming terrible. I feel fortunate to have been matched up with my current girlfriend whom I am sure I would have never met without Eharmony and whom I am totally smitten with.. And the guided communication is a good way for shy people to begin to communicate.

But these free periods where they allow people to communicate who can't see your photos and can't lead to actual dates is a total disservice for anyone who is paying for Eharmony. That and matching you with non paying members is another total scam on the part of eHarmony.

I think the company will eventually will go out of business with such practices.

Fantastic news on your good relationship, I'm glad to hear it. It seems you got in at the right time (and are fortunate to not have to deal with it now!).

I couldn't agree more with your assessment. There is no way I would ever recommend eHarmony to anyone. It'd be like punching a friend in the face... It just makes no sense, for the reasons you provide as well as others.

Good luck on things moving forward!
