It's something I just encountered for the first time in eH. In the time I have been using eH, I never before had a match tell me that the name he has on his profile is not his real first name.

I can understand using a screen name in other, more public profiles... but does anyone else use a screen name in eH? Why? or why not?

Nope.. I don't

I've only come across one match who used a fake name. I never ask why nor did she explain..

Hi Beachedgenie,

Currently usernames (such as type people might use in Advice) are discouraged in eHarmony Singles matching service. We do allow people who want another level of privacy to use a middle name or initials, however. It’s actually not that uncommon. Unless the name someone used is really out there, I wouldn’t see it as too much of a red flag. But it’s always good to keep your eyes open and your gut in check when you’re getting to know someone.

All the best,

I've had some that put a single letter as their user name. I've also had one which was odd where her name was Hope, but when we got to OC she told me that her name was something else. That Hope was a mispelling of her last name. I never understood how that happened. There were other things wrong under basic, too. Height, age...etc
Supposedly a friend setup her profile...

I originally signed up with my initial, but I also did the RELY ID to reassure my matches. The issue with me is that my first name is extremely unusual, and anyone who puts that and my town in google will quickly know everything about me. I have a blog, and there are some pieces written about me out there, etc. etc. That's why I initially (ha!) just put my initial. Later, I figured anyone who read all the way to the bottom of my very off-putting profile had earned it.

I don't want strangers knowing my real name so I use B00bLUVR for my eH account.

LOL! (Somehow, I don't think they'd let that one through...!)

I signed up for eH long enough ago that I had a username...but for ages now, they've used first names on profiles (or what someone put as their first name...initials, middle name, or sometimes a nickname). I can log in with either my username or my email address, though.

The lack of screen names like "B00bLUVR" is one thing that makes eH different from other dating sites, IMO.

b00bsMcCoy was not allowed to go through.... but somehow B00bLUVR is just fine.
