Ok, you've seen eH questions many times over... How would you REALLY like to answer them? Post one of the questions and answer it here, letting it all hang out... or give an off color answer for fun.... I'll start...

Q. Describe your own personal style.
A. Style? I don't understand the question.

Q. How important is it to you that your partner fulfill traditional gender roles? Would you like a woman who will cook, shop and keep house? Would you like a man who maintains the cars, manages the finances, and is handy around the house?
A. I'm not sure, but can you take a break from folding my laundry and bring me a beer. This is a great game!

Q. Describe an interest you have that you would truly hope your partner could share with you.
A. Sex?

I've posted many times that far too many of the canned questions are bad, bad, bad. "Are you jealous," "How have your relationships ended," etc. They reveal baggage in the person who asked them, or they ask you to unpack your baggage. Many are ambigious and prone to misinterpretation... and not in a way that can lead to interesting discussion. And others are on topics that you shouldn't have to discuss with an e-stranger.

For many of them, sometimes the best you can do is turn them around into a joke... try to show your sense of humor. Let's look at the "personal style" question. A woman that reads "style" magazines would probably ask that. And most guys have no idea what the point is. Your answer is cold and interesting. I have answered it like this: "Style? Are you looking for Martha Stewart "style"? Billy Dee Williams "style"? Hmmm?"

So I'm just curious - what does it say about a guy when he is asking the personal style question? Why even ask that?

Oh, and I usually answer that with something along the lines of overalls are seriously underrated.

He wants to know which are your favorite... aah... styles.

Well, with some guys... that's mostly what's on their mind. And with some gals too.

A lot of them are retarded and reveal more about the asker than the answerer, as pointed out below.

I get the the wish / dream ilk a lot.

If you had three wishes.
What one dream for your life

I too tend to answer them equally silly

My favorite :describe your ideal man / woman
Hmmm... lets see, pregnant, addicted to crack, on parole, rap sheet, looks like a warthog, drinks like a fish, talks like a sailor, homeless.

Agreed. I like the idea of having steps to the process, but the closed ended questions are in my opinion very limiting and the answer choices are in now way exclusive or exhaustive. I almost always end up writing in an "other" answer choice anyway because in my opinion they try to oversimplify big issues. If I'm very interested in a match once we get to the open ended questions I almost always write my own and when my match does the same it always bumps him up in my mind. I also will say I never use those questions to have an agenda. It's usually more a burning curiosity about something in their profile.

In reference to the style question, I've always assumed it meant clothing/dress style. I've only asked this question once, just for the sake of it because I get it asked to me. The guy responded by discussing his personality style/outlook on life. After I read that, I questioned myself. Have I been responding to this question incorrectly? As ridiculous as this question is, it is referring to dress style right?

I sometimes ask a variation of this question that reads: Aside from clothing style how would you characterize your personal style? How do you carry yourself?

This question is difficult to answer since it takes some introspection of oneself, but what I'm seeking is how a person carries themselves in public, with friends/family, work, etc.

For me my personal style is one of reservation until I feel it's appropriate to act, I speak with an eloquence and am articulate, I respectful of other in public and appreciative of those who are hard working (if I dine out).

Won't you invariably get a politically correct answer? I mean who is going to tell you that they are rude and short change the waiter on a regular basis?
