Free Communication for 10 days...will it help?

Just saw a commercial for a ten-day free communication event starting on Friday (23rd). For the veterans out there, have you guys noticed that free communication promotions leads to more or less dates? Or is it generally the same?

I'm intrigued by this FCE for a couple of reasons.

The length of this could easily be a benefit. Running a FCW over a few days may mean that people don't get into it until too late, so communication stalls.

The other reasons is this is not associated with a major holiday. I've felt that sticking this with holidays is bad form because single people always get away during holidays. The fact that this covers two weekends might mean that more people will have the chance to take advantage of this.

I do have a couple of recent matches from nearby that I'm interested in communicating with. I believe one is outright not a paying member and the other I'm not sure about, but she so far hasn't responded to my first five questions. I may actually use the nudge just to see if that will wake these matches up.

This is a good post to give us notice.

I have seen no value from the free weekends myself, though as a free user, I will be sure to check the site Friday evening in case you are right.

D Lion as a free user do you get any benefit from the site? Are people allowed to contact you? Have you met anyone this way?

I am hoping that more people that may have been deterred by the cost in the past are motivated to join. EH is really expensive.

The FCW really has me puzzled, how is E-harmony making any money from this? Ten days? Unlike others I know the main objective for E-harmony is to make profits from matching people.

Britttany why do you say the cost is high? $20 amonth is not that much is it? I know it is not free (plenty of fish) but I think a good value.

For a one month subscription it is pretty expensive. Now of course if you sign up for a full year it is much more affordable. I would rather one month to see if I even like the process than signing up for longer stints blindly.
As far as profits, I am sure they want to give people a taste of what EH has to offer with the hopes that those signing up for the trial will become paying members. I also would like to think that they are offering this as a way to increase the number of potential matches for their current customers. Just from what I have been reading on here so far, many people are frustrated (or have accepted the fact) that EH has a lot of dead profiles that paying customers get matched with frequently. But it seems like dead profiles may be an issue regardless just because EH doesn't offer an option to see whether the profile has been active in the past month or week etc.

Either way I am eager to see how this FCW will turn out

Wow, ten days? That's unprecedented! I think the longest it's been before has been four days around Thanksgiving. I usually was in my "nothing's happening, check eH once a week" mode and didn't find out till the last day & wasted the opportunity. With a whole ten days, at least the last half of it should be fairly active.

Great opportunity to see if some matches will "resurrect" (one I hadn't heard from in two years just resurrected last week). A photo nudge,or communication nudge, or if you haven't already used one of those on that match, or an icebreaker near the beginning of the FCW (week in this case, not weekend!) can help them to realize you are there and maybe get them to communicate with you. If you can't do either, simply looking at their profile at least shows up on "who's viewed me".

Then, after the FCW ends...close out the least promising matches who haven't communicated. It's ok to leave the better matches on the back burner till the next FCW...sometimes they randomly resurrect!

I am *VERY* worried that this one is going to be the horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE "Free General Communication Event" like they had in Canada a couple months ago.

I can't find ANYTHING about this one coming up, so I don't know...

But if you weren't aware, a couple months ago, EHarmony has a 10 day "Free General Communication Event" in Canada that allowed free members to communicate....

ONLY UP TO STAGE 3!!!

Once they got past Stage 3, they were NOT allowed to go to OC and send an email, until they paid for a membership.

As you might imagine, for us paying users, this is the absolutely WORST thing for us, since we have no idea who is paying and non-paying, EHarmony gets us all this communication going... And then pulls the rug out from under us, by not allowing the free members to continue to email.

It makes me mad just thinking about it, and how badly that implementation exploits us paid users.

So anyway, lets just HOPE that this isn't like that Canada one...

Hopefully Kate/Renee will confirm it one way or another.

I have had no success since seven months, but it is unlikely that this is due to me being a free user.

There are not suitable partners where I live.

The FCWs in the past have led to a lot more communication. I have not really made note of dates of paying members versus FCW people but I would say that getting to the actual meeting in person is about the same.

While some complain about the FCWs I find that I get more matches surrounding a FCW and get a whole lot more communication during a FCW than I do with paying members. And I do get dates with FCW matches.

I always look forward to the FCWs.
