OK
I started up with eHarmony last week (it's been a year since I was a member). Instead of closing someone out, I have to "archive" them. Archiving sounds weird, as if I'm placing them on a bookshelf or in some crate next to "the arc" (Indiana Jones).

Anyways, how do I delete my archives? They take up space and they serve no purpose on my page.

Hi KungFuFtr,

Welcome back to our Singles site. I trust your move went well!

With the new Archive feature, it is necessary to archive a match before you can close communication. Once archived, click the match's name and scroll down her profile. You'll find a Close Match link in the bottom, left-hand corner.

Some members think the Archive feature is helpful and some think it's horrible. Even though it now takes a few more clicks to close a match, I encourage you to give it the feature chance. Hopefully, it will encourage you to reconsider matches you would have normally closed right away and that you'll be pleasantly surprised by some of these match after giving them a chance.

Whatever your ultimate opinion about feature, as I'm sure you know, you are welcome to share your thoughts and feedback with our Product Team.

I wish you all the best with your search!

My vote is for horrible. I am deleting matches over 3 months old and it is taking forever.

I like the archive idea for a match I am on the fence about - but I can't stick them in the archive file because there are a lot of matches I need to close...

FYI, there are a bunch of other threads in this forum where people have bemoaned the archive feature. Reading some of those will give you a better sense of how the feature works. You also might want to look through some of the posts in the stickied thread at the top of the forum by the eH Product Team to see what comments have been made there about the archive feature.

I don't remember seeing any posts that favored the new archive feature except for Looking's post above.

Since there's generally nothing but complaints about it it should be deep sixed. That's if you really value user feedback.

Deep sixed is a good decision. It might be applied to the eHarmony "Product Team" as well.

tweet37, I like the Archived tab a lot and spared no words explaining why in the June Feedback thread.

If the matches you've archived are dead (We all know that a ton of our matches are dead accounts), then they're as good as closed anyway and you'll never see them and hear from them again. BUT if they rewrite their profile or if they upload better photos or if they initiate, then you can re-evaluate whether you'd like to talk to them.

Do I archive matches whom I like but don’t have time for? That is, to put them on hold? No, just leave them on the New tab.

How do I delete my archives? They take up space and they serve no purpose on my page. Leave the Archived tab alone. Never go there unless you're bored or want to be demoralized The Match Updates screen will tell you if anything noteworthy happens there. There's never ever a need to go there.

That's how I ended up with over 400 matches in my inbox under the old system...lol.

This only works, though, if you are logging in regularly and checking the updates screen and have some memory of which match is which (which I never have without actually viewing their profile). Plus, if I've already decided that I'm not interested in someone, then I don't give a fig if he has updated his account, and don't want to have to pull up his profile each time he does so in order to think "Oh; that guy again..."

I have looked for this "close match" link at the bottom left and it is not there. I really would like to be able to permanently close a match. Any other way?

Hi NYCpigeon –

I’ll try to help out here without seeing it. Is this just one match or all or some of them?

If it’s all of them after you’ve archived them, the Close option should also appear at the top of their profile under the Icebreaker tab.

If the Close option isn't on one or some of archived the matches, you may want to contact our Customer Care team through the FAQs/Help page: eHarmony Support Home Page. It’s possible that there’s a display issue either internally or something that’s not compatible between your computer system and eHarmony. Our technical team would be able to explore work-around or fix options for you.

All the best,

~Kate
