Hello everyone...
I'm really new to this. I'm just trying to understand how it is that eHarmony is all about finding the "right" matches. I have had more people close out my matches with them than I have had people who actually wanna get to know me. I have been the one with all of my matches that I am talking too who started the conversations in the first place. Am I being too forward by sending the first communications? I'm following the eHarmony steps to communications. I have yet have someone send me any kind of communication first. So is part of my problem here that I'm too forward with my matches? I'm just a little confused as to what I may be doing wrong. Any kind of advice would be great.

Being closed is actually a good thing, overall. At least you know where you stand and aren't in limbo.

You are paying for this service, so sending your 1st questions is just as OK as a guy sending them to you.

If you think it might help, we can review your profile. We can be a bit harsh, but tough love abounds when it comes to finding "The One" on eH. You can also look through the workshop threads. There is a thread with links to all the threads at the top of the Using eHarmony board.

Welcome to the boards. Hope you stick around and enjoy yourself. We love new people!

First of all thank you for your response. I'm ok with "tough love" lol I just want to make sure I'm doing all I can with this service. What is it that I need to do to make it so y'all can see my profile?

There is a "how to" at the top of this board. It is basically just a copy and paste deal. Don't copy and paste from Word, you will end up with a bunch of smileys and carp that makes it hard to read.

This should give you details. http://advice.eharmony.com/boards/da...tructions.html

The one thing Alberta is most passionate about:

my kids, my family, my faith, helping others, I have a huge heart for all who serve in our military for one of the most important people in my life (my little brother) is serving in the US Army. God bless them all. I'm an ex military wife so I understand this way of life more so than most might so I have great passion for our military for our troops.

The most important thing Alberta is looking for in a person is:

Someone who is family geared is very important to me.Their love for God. Honesty and openness is very important as well. You have to be able to laugh with life. Laughter is a huge part of my life. I missed my calling I swear!! Someone I can trust and communicate with. Communication is a very big part. Someone who just really enjoys life. I want someone I can grow with. Someone I can learn from and who wants to learn from me.

Basic Information
Occupation: working for a family owned business
Age: 33
Height: 5' 6"
Wants Kids: Maybe
Kids at Home: Yes
Ethnicity: White, non-Hispanic
Religion: Christian
Drinks: A few times a year
Smokes: Never

The most influential person in Alberta's life has been:

My grandparents for sure. My grandma raised me and after she passed my grandpa continued to raise me. Very important people in my life. Shaped me into the person I am today. My little brother who has shown me that no matter what you have been through you can make the best of what is before you. He's my hero

The three things which Alberta is most thankful for:

* Both of my kids
* My closeness to God
* Our Military for their fight each day so that we may live in a free country

Three of Alberta's best life-skills are:

* Using humor to make friends laugh
* Communicating my innermost thoughts and feelings
* Raising and/or caring for children

The one thing Alberta wishes MORE people would notice about her is:

I tend to be very silly. Not something someone might not notice right off the bat. I'm very proud of our troops. Huge supporter of our military. My little brother is in the Army. I burst with pride with him. oops they said ONE thing lol guess they shouldn't give me so much room to type than haha. I'm super duper easy to talk to. See give me room to type and I just keep going lol.

The things Alberta can't live without are:

* my kids
* God
* family & friends
* humor & laughter cant have one without the other
* chocolate & Starbucks lol

The first thing people notice about Alberta is:

They tend to notice my eyes. My grandpa use to tell me "God took halos and placed them into your eyes your soul shines bright my angel"

Some additional information Alberta wanted you to know is:

I actually go by my middle name which is Jean. I was named after my grandma who raised me. I'm a very passionate person.I'm very passionate about my life in God. I love doing things for my church. I'm very silly and am always making my friends and family laugh. The best thing I could do in a day is make someone laugh. I'm so funny that I'm usually making myself laugh. I have the knack for finding the humor in everything in life. My nick name just happens to be Goober lol and no not the chocolate covered peanuts lol even know those are super yummy!! lol I may not look like it but I love classic cars!! I grew up a tom boy lol

Alberta typically spends her leisure time:

I love spending time with my kids and family. Spending time doing things outdoors hiking, fishing, camping. Even know I may not be able to get out there to do those things all the time. They are things I really enjoy. I love a good movie. Specially with someone I can cuddle with (yes...I'm a "cuddle bug") lol oh and lets not forget...making people laugh. I bet I could make you laugh (giggles)

The last book Alberta read and enjoyed:

The Notebook. What is there not to like about this book. I loved it from the beginning to end. It's such a romantic story about a love that I'm sure most of us wish we could find.

Alberta's friends describe her as:

* Outgoing
* Funny
* Easy-Going
* Genuine

The running themes in your profile are military, kids and God...over and over and over again. I understand that you're passionate about those things, but it also makes you sound one-dimensional.

As a guy, there's a part of me that would also think that if I'm not a military person, I may not have a chance.

God bless them all. I'm an ex military wife so I understand this way of life more so than most might so I have great passion for our military for our troops. That last sentence reads a bit like bad baggage alert - like you are not quite over the ex or the lifestyle you had with him.

I missed my calling I swear!! Someone I can trust and communicate with. Communication is a very big part. Someone who just really enjoys life. I want someone I can grow with. Someone I can learn from and who wants to learn from me. Narrow this down to just one or two qualities that are super important to you and expand a little. For instance, their love for God - what does that mean? Do you need someone to be of the same religion as you? Do you need someone who will go to your church with you every week? Or is it more that they have faith at large?

See give me room to type and I just keep going lol. Ummm....the first sentence is fine, the rest.....you are repeating what you've already said and it does not make much sense as an answer. You really need to stop with that first sentence. By the way, you are not easy to talk to if you are the one doing all the talking - that last sentence is likely to spook a lot of men.

I grew up a tom boy lol Once again you are repeating everything you've already said before so there is no value added here. Also, you are saying you are sooo funny....but nothing in your profile shows humor. What do people who like classic cars look like? Weird thing to say. If you like them just say that you like them and maybe expand a little - what do you like about them?

You are making an assumption that everyone has read the book or knows about it. How about you describe it a little and expand on what appealed to you.

In addition to the above comments, you have a lot spelling and grammatical errors in your profile. A whole lot of people will find that to be a huge turn off and will close you out for it.

My usual disclaimer that I'm a female so the above should be taken with a grain of salt. Also, it's not a criticism of you as a person, just how your profile reads to a stranger.

Thank you for your response. I appreciate your take on my profile. I didn't realize that I may come across as "one dimensional" that is not me at all. It's frustrating because I know what I want to say. It's just not coming out like I want it too. With some good sound advice I'm confident I can fix it. Thank you again

First and foremost thank you for your response. I appreciate your honesty here. A lot of what you had said really made me think. This isn't how I wanted to come off. Sometimes I guess it is best to keep it short and simple. This is the first time I have used a site like eHarmony so it's all new to me. I'm going to work on my profile some more and hope to make it more like I want it to sound.

MicMan and Dancing Fool I have taken into account your advice and have made the following changes and hope that maybe you could tell me if I've done any better.

The one thing Alberta is most passionate about:

my kids, my family, my faith, and helping others

The most important thing Alberta is looking for in a person is:

family geared because family is so important to me,and honesty because without this it is hard to build trust

The one thing Alberta wishes MORE people would notice about her is:

that I have a great sense of humor

Some additional information Alberta wanted you to know is:

I actually go by my middle name which is Jean. I was named after my grandma who raised me. If there is more you would like to know. Don't be afraid to send me a message and ask.

Alberta typically spends her leisure time:

I love spending time with my kids doing things such as camping, hiking, fishing,spending time in Yosemite National Park. Even know I may not be able to get out there to do those things all the time.I always have time to enjoy the simple things in life. I love a good movie. Rather seeing one in a theater or staying in and watching one.

The last book Alberta read and enjoyed:

The Notebook by Nichols Sparks. It's a story of a older man reading from an old faded notebook to his older companion in a nursing home. This story tells of a love between a young man Noah and his true love Allie who feel madly in love in the 1940's. His words bring back this epic love story to his companion who suffers from dementia. She fades in and out of remembering this story he is telling. She realizes that this story is of her and the older gentlemen (Noah). They pass away knowing that their love transcends the test of time. I love this story because it drew me in and made me feel as though i was part of their story.
