Hello everyone,

Can you provide some comments/suggestions on how to improve my profile? Thank you.

Occupation: Programmer (In transition)/Part-time student
Age: 34
Height: 5' 9"
Wants Kids: Maybe
Kids at Home: No

Ethnicity: White, non-Hispanic
Religion: Neither religious nor spiritual
Drinks: A few times a year
Smokes: Never

The one thing Angelo is most passionate about:

I'm passionate about maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle and encouraging my friends to join me. That means trying out different sports/activities on a regular basis. Exercise is a lot more fun as a group. Especially when playing team sports among friends. I'm also passionate about education and self improvement. My natural curiosity led me to return to university a few times and to take interest in several fields. How does one relate travel/tourism, psychology and computer science?

The most important thing Angelo is looking for in a person is:

The most important quality I'm looking for in another person is a combination of good communication, patience and a positive outlook on life. This goes a long way in making a relationship smoother. When arguments do come up it makes solving them a little easier.

The most influential person in Angelo's life has been:

Aside from my parents, I would have to say that the next strongest influence came from a combination of people. First, some of the teachers I had over the years helped me to think in new ways. Second, my brother was quite influential in helping me to choose a career path and develop my approach towards handling responsibilities. There were many things that I learned just by following his example.

The three things which Angelo is most thankful for:

* The people in my life.
* Freedom from war/violence and good economic conditions.
* Good health.

Three of Angelo's best life-skills are:

* Being a good friend and companion
* Finding new adventures and unique experiences
* Achieving personal goals

The one thing Angelo wishes MORE people would notice about him is:

My sense of humour. Sometimes people take my jokes/teasing seriously.

The things Angelo can't live without are:

* Modern Technology
* Books and Knowledge
* Friends and Family
* Fun and Entertainment
* City life

The first thing people notice about Angelo is:

The first thing people notice about me is that I really enjoy meeting/interacting with people. This is demonstrated by my friendly personality and my smile.

Some additional information Angelo wanted you to know is:

Je suis bilingue. Si ca vous interesse on peut communiquer en francais.

Angelo typically spends his leisure time:

Since the weather is getting nicer and I can go outside, I'm currently following an eight week training program I found on the internet. It's a great workout, but it took me a few days to get over the shock of the cardio workout. I enjoy sitting down with a good book and have started reading mystery novels. I really like the suspense and occasional surprise endings. I'm also trying to teach myself how to cook. I've become a big fan of the recipes on the Simply Ming website. Last but not least, there's always room for a fun night out whether it's seeing live comedy or just talking over coffee.

The last book Angelo read and enjoyed:

The last book I read was High Season by Jon Loomis. It's a mystery novel about a small town police detective who is trying to forget his previous career experience as a big city homicide investigator. The part I enjoyed most was the cast of characters who were brought together throughout the course of the story. None of the characters were generic; they all had a history that made them interesting.

Angelo's friends describe him as:

* Dependable
* Easy-Going
* Hard Working
* Intelligent

This is very good as is, Angelo. It's interesting, has a lot of "hooks" for a match to respond to, or talk about in GC/OC, is inviting.

Are you posting it for review because you're not having a good EH experience? If that's the case, it might be something else: pictures? How you handle GC/OC?

American?

if so, I stopped when I read the thankful for "freedom from war...etc...
I think I know what you meant, but we are fighting a war right now, in case you haven't heard...in Iraq & Afghanistan...and uh, many brave Americans, Canadians, Brits..etc..etc.. have given their lives, in those countries....

It may not be affecting your corner of the world, but you need to take a look around and open your eyes...we just had Memorial Day...
I've buried a few friends, and their loved ones may have an argument against that remark.

anyway...it is up to you..but, I suggest you fix that.

I would take out the (in transition) in your occupation. Makes me think you don't actually have a job, possibly got laid off, etc. If your regular job is Programmer, just leave it at that. The student part is fine.

Thank you both for your help. I'm posting my profile for review because I seem to be getting closed by the majority of my matches. Even the ones with whom I think I have a lot in common.

@TheThinker: I did not realize that "freedom from war" could be interpreted that way. You're right. I decided to change that to "The opportunities I had so far in life."

I know...a lot of people don't. It's not just you., and I wasn't trying to single you out....
The way, I figure it, as long as young men and women keep coming home in body bags, we're never truly 'free..from war"...
and who knows, the young lady who is reading your profile might just be one of those "living"casualties...the widow of a soldier.

And thank you for doing that.

PS- "good economic conditions" is arguable, but, as long as you're happy....

Oh ... I think I interpreted "freedom from war and good economic conditions" as you are probably an immigrant from some war-torn impoverished nation, Angelo. If that's the case, perhaps clarify. Thinker's right though, if you're not an immigrant.

I was born in Canada, so I decided to take Thinker's advice.

@TheThinker, I completely removed the entire line and replaced it with "The opportunities I had so far in life.".

@AndieIsMe: Hi. Thanks for your input. I wasn't sure how to fill in the occupation section. I put "In Transition" because I was hired on a contract basis. If they don't renew the contract I could be out of work when I meet someone face to face. If they ask it might sound like I lied. I'm also looking for a more permanent position. Should that read "on contract basis"?

I would just take "transition" out and say "programmer". That's what you are, now, while writing the profile.

If it changes, you can edit your profile at that time. (NB: when you edit your profile on EH, any existing matches get a little notice that you've edited ... brings you to their notice, so it's not a bad thing to just tweak it now and then.)

Sounds like a good idea. I changed my occupation to read "Programmer/Part-time student".
