So in a recent attempt to clean up my New matches, I sent first questions to about 35 matches. That was about four days ago. I haven't had replies yet (no big deal, things happen, dead profiles, etc.), but I've had seven of them view my profile (plus one anonymous), and none of these seven have closed me. My guess is, they might be non-paying members, therefore unable to reply to my questions.

So, if I want to contact them, can I skip right to eHarmony mail with those matches already at step 1 of Guided Communication, and hand them my personal e-mail address (or some temporary address, if I should have some privacy concerns)? Will these non-paying members be able to view that mail?

Lastly, are non-paying members able to communicate through EH mail if a paying member has skipped right to e-mail, or if the two made it to open communication before one of them changed to non-paying?

p.s. I still plan to wait until late Sunday to try and skip to open communication. They might not have had time to answer yet, or wanted some time.

Thanks in advance!

You can only communicate with unpaid matches during Free Communication Weekends (FCWs). There just was an FCW over Memorial Day. They seem to occur every 6 weeks or so, but it's a little random.

What you can do is keep the ones who interest you, and at the next FCW, see if they answer you back.

During FCWs, unpaid members can participate in Guided Communication (GC) but they cannot skip GC and go straight to Open Communication (OC). Once you're in OC with someone, you can initiate contact outside EH if you want (email, phone, in person, whatever).

If an unpaid match pays for a subscription, then they become like any other member and you can communicate anytime and skip to OC if you both want.

So:
Keep the ones you're interested open.
Wait to see if they respond -- which may not be until the next FCW.
As long as they're unpaid, you can't skip GC.
