I don't really understand the process that takes place with the approval of photos. Over the FCW I got matches who had photos that clearly didn't meet the criteria (one literally had a picture of a collapsing brick wall... what? Probably a sign to say away). Yet, when trying to put a picture up of myself playing a sport (it requires a mask, yeah...) it gets denied time and time again.

E-Harmony states up front that they rely on the honesty of its members to present themselves accurately. If I have five clear photos of me alone (there's no group shots that you have to try and guess who I am) what harm could it possibly cause for me to have a picture of myself playing a sport that requires a protective mask? My old team is still a pretty big part of my life and I think its something important to show on my profile.

If someone could maybe explain the process a little better that would be appreciated. I attached the offending photo.

If the case is you want to show yourself within your sport, I would suggest a photo of before or after a game all suited up but with he masked raised or off, like with a team photo (and you could always caption that to point yourself out) or solo. I too have a sport important to me (lacrosse) and have a candid photo a teammate took of myself on the sidelines with my helmet unbuckled and the face mask raised so it wasn't obscuring my face and it passed muster right away. I would suggest that route.

I think it's because you're holding a gun.

I agree with ya, what you do is a sport, and should be acceptable, but I don't make the guidelines..

check out this link to photo guidelines (guideline #10) eHarmony Photo Guidelines by eHarmony Advice

They do need to make this clear on your profile when you upload pics, it might be there, and I just missed it though.

Huh. I never saw that before. I don't believe the "gun" rule would apply based on the context that the rule is written in. It's specifically talking about a "gun" in the sense of doing bodily harm to somebody/something in a recreational setting (IE: hunting). Besides, the industry standard term for what we use is "marker". That's an entirely different debate though.

I think ultimately I'm struggling to understand why photos get through that aren't even of people.

Thanks guys for the insight, I'll try and figure out something else instead.

I agree...probably the paintball gun..
also, if you used the same photo shown, it exceeds the maximum width in pixels....not by much, but it does.

I tried to post a group photo with my friends faces replaced with cartoons. Mine was real though. Another pic with me doing a handstand, but the face was not showing. Both were denied twice in a single night.

Got up early the next morning and upload the pics. Approved.

My guess was a different person was looking at the pics the morning and found them acceptable.

Dizzle I went to Trek Ryder's link and the rule is "Members holding guns and/or dead animals are not permitted. We will accept a picture if the member is in the military and the picture is of the member in uniform with their weapon."

I don't think they care what kind of gun it is, they're not going to approve it.

Maybe you could get a group shot of you and your team with no guns?

Well, the problem is that there's no way for me to get new pictures this year because I'm out until my shoulder heals. Unfortunately I don't really have anything else since the photographers are on the field and don't usually take pictures of coaching or the pit crews.

Regardless, I think I'm just going to have to scrap the idea in its entirety. I'm obviously in the minority of people who play paintball and use this service so I don't expect any kind of break on it. A lot of people don't understand that the sport is far more than a bunch of kids running around in the back woods being misfits. We travel across the country to play in national events, there's leagues, sponsors, and $$ all at stake. That's a totally different topic though, and I digress.

Most of my frustration just came from seeing far less appropriate photos used. Like Calvin asks... "Why can't the world be unfair in my favor?" haha.

Thanks for the replies folks, maybe a mod can go into detail on how they proof the photos here. Either way, I got my answer for the most part.

If so, that's pretty dumb.

Apparently they're doing everything they can to discourage me from renewing.

They shouldn't reject a photo unless it's obscene or of a celebrity or otherwise obviously not the person posting it.
