How many of you write in your own answers during the first questions. If you don't it is a great way to make yourself stick out from the crowd a bit (or even a lot).

Along with having a good profile and good pictures writing in your own answers during stage 1 is a way to increase the amount of attention you get.

I write my own answers on 3 or 4 of the questions. I find that usually the canned answers don't really reflect anything I would pick. Then again, I don't color in the lines either.

I always write in my own answers. You are selling yourself to someone who does not know you, so be expressive, tell them a LITTLE about you, how you are as a person or how you think or operate, set yourself apart from the others but at the same time be very careful what you say or you will be closed right there. It is very easy for someone else to misunderstand or read something incorrect into what you are saying; they are not aware of the thought processes behind your statement and you have no chance to explain or defend your statement. Your meaning and wording are very important. Everyone is looking for red flags, signs of instability, incompatibility, selfishness, etc. Example: On Saturday night, would you rather go to:

A) ballet/theater/symphony
B) a professional sporting event
C) a popular new movie
D) the latest dance club
E) Theater, restaurant with good food or maybe fix a nice dinner together at home, with friends or not, this all depends on your preferences too.

I write my answers out in Word, then look at them an hour or so later reading them as though I were the recipient. Then after corrections, paste this into your reply. This also keeps eH from timing out and losing your perfect composition, which it will do - warning!

I write my own answers to most of them depending on the question asked. With very few of them it's limited to one of the choices.

The success rate for me is much higher when I do write in answers vs when I don't (to the point to where I do all the time now).

If I had to guess though I would say a lot of folks do not. And I am sure that has something to do with the lack of success some people claim to have in getting people to communicate with them.

Always, because the canned answers never seem to fit, or to provide enough information.

I wrote in most of mine.
Sometimes one of the selected answers were fine. Most of the time not.
I dont know that it makes you stick out from the rest or not though.

I have custom answers for most of mine. My web browser even saves them for me.

I also have custom (canned) answers for most of the stock Step 3 questions, many of which make no sense to me. Someone who writes her own Step 3 questions comes across as more interested and interesting so I am happy to think on the spot about her questions.

Even if one of the selected answers seem fine I think it is still better to write something of your own (even if it says something similar). It shows that you put forth a little bit of effort in your reply.

It always impresses me a lot more when someone writes something in rather than just selecting one of those answers.

I write my own answers in most of the time. On the first one, I write something like, Hello there, thanks for communicating with me. And then I answer their question.

I feel like the canned answers aren't very complete most of the time and I want the person to have more information about me, rather than less. That way they can get a better idea if there's a good fit and close me sooner rather than later if not.
